Probably noone will agree with me but us Cleveland Browns fans need to vent.

So he (Rudd) took off his helmet. He didn't do it in a revolting way he did it in a celebration; a celebration with Time Expiring. He couldn't see behind his head that the QB was able to get off a last gasp toss of the ball....A placekicker taunted ? Who did he taunt with his head down and holding the ball - his own kicker ?! Next noone on the offensive lines will be allowed to talk !

So, what about when there's 30 seconds left on the clock and the winning team or both teams run on to the field ? Will that now be a penalty ?

What about in basketball with Time Expiring, the guy with the ball throws it in the Air ? Is that unsportsman-like and the other team deserves free shots ?

Regardless, us Cleveland fans are used to this !

As I heard it, the rule is you can NOT remove your helmet DURING a play. The play clearly was continuing. Rudd shouldn't have celebrated prematurely.

In Bizarro World, this would make players realize that they should be more concerned with making great plays than great celebratory dances. But we don't live in Bizarro World, as much as it seems we do sometimes.

Bottom line: He didn't play to the whistle. He assumed the play/game was over. Fine, the rules may suck--it's called the No Fun League for a reason--but it was the correct call.

Nice try with the "teams running on the field with 30 seconds" thing. 99% of the time, it's 48-10 or something similar when that happens; apple and oranges.

It's amazing how the Browns are the only team in the history of sports that have ever been jobbed by a bad call or stupidity of their own players.

Quickest way to get me yelling at the TV: a player who makes a feckin' ROUTINE tackle acting like he's single-handedly taken on all 11 guys on the other team. I loathe all the chest-thumping and strutting around; yeah, we. get. it. You're on TV. Whoop dee doo.

I was watching the game yesterday waiting for the US Open final to come on. It was truly the most wild finish I have personally observed. You could not make this stuff up if you tried.

I agree with the viewpoint of a rule is a rule. Keep your helmet on, go slap your teammates on the back, and play like a professional. There was no need to take off the helmet and throw it, even if the play were dead.

Even Rudd commented that the refs made the right call, and that he agreed with them throwing the flag. I am sure his teammates are more upset with him than the officials.

Kansas City will certainly take an unexpected twist and the fortuitous win.

So, silly little rules are only enforced when a team has a slim lead...Thanks for clearing that up !

I'm a Browns fan but Rudd was acting stupid and showboating. If it wasn't my home team I'd be laffin my butt off. Cut the celebration dancin and play football.

Blame Butch Davis: He encourages that kind of showboating back to his UMiami days. Geez, even his holder gets a taunting penalty!

Er, um, well, uh, OK, that wasn't the best example was it?

This dolt pulled this kind of crap when he was with the Vikings too. I remember an interception return for a touchdown he made a couple of years ago. As he approached the end zone, he slowed down and started taunting the other team. I am a huge Viking fan, and even I was hoping he'd get tackled or fumble or get hit by lightning before he scored. And when Randy Moss does it, I am embarrassed to be a Viking fan. They know the rules-just obey them and this isn't an issue.

All this showboating to get on SportsCenter is the single biggest reason for my slowly-but-surely diminishing love of sports. But if it takes severe penalties to get these clowns to knock it off, if we can be spared the sight of Little Leaguer emulating an idol, then penalize away, I say!

And I just wonder what the outraged Browns fans' reactions would be if the situation were reversed, if they were the beneficiary of a victory by the same penalty against the Chiefs. Or would we only hear outrage from Chiefs fans?

Yes, there is showboating in every single NFL game. But this is the first time I have seen a Victory taken away because of it.

NFL miffed at the Browns ? hmmmm

osufan - yes, what happened sunday to the browns just sucked. but... the rules are the rules, regardless. don't blame the nfl, don't blame the refs, don't blame butch davis (jim!)... blame dwayne rudd. despite the intensity required to play in the nfl, i can't quite seem to understand why players find the need to act like manics when they make a play (whether it be average or great). much respect goes to the coach who reprimands his players for doing so. rudd's actions on what should have been the final play were both unprofessional and immature. for crying out loud, act like you've been there before. respect your ability and act with class!

i had the priviledge to sit in the suite next to the owners box for sunday's browns/chiefs game. jamir miller spent much of the first half visiting with al lerner, carmen policy and their guests. i didn't know too much about jamir's off the field personality before the game, but he impressed me as a genuine and humble individual. as for the outcome of the game: i'm sure mr. lerner and mr. policy were quite upset and frustrated, but surprisingly there was very little emotion from either during the 4th quarter which saw KC score 23 points, including the game winning FG after the bizarre play as time hit :00. really, the whole staduim appeared to be shell-shocked, even after andersen split the uprights. i still find myself "rewinding" to the second to last play of the game, trying to make sense of what happened... fact of the matter is you can't. a mistake was made... pure and simple. all we can hope is that butch davis can pull the team out of the "funk" they must be in as the week starts and has them ready to beat up on the bengals this weekend. hey, they're still on top of the division! ;-)
