Rather than pollute well intended football threads with back and forth badgering from Phillyfan, I propose one thread (this one).

I'll start if off with a piece from one of my favorite sites, www.700level.com - I get a good, hard laugh every time I read this post.

NFC Championship
Eagles 10 vs. Buccaneers 27

Be Careful What You Wish For...
January 20, 2003

After the Eagles beat the Bucs in October, I said "I can't wait to see these guys again in January".

To say that I spoke too soon would be an understatement. What was billed as the biggest game in Eagle history, turned into the worst defeat in Eagle history. Since their NFC Championship loss at the hands of the Rams last year, the entire Eagles organization said with one voice "in our house, it would be different". They established a goal of being the top seed in the NFC, thus putting the game in their stadium, on their difficult field, in front of their acidic fans. They achieved their goal. As chance would have it, the competitor was a team that had a history of futility against these Eagles, and these conditions. Everything was right in front of them... and nothing was the result.

PRICELESS

No offense, dude, but they're about to start this season's regular season games. So you won a SuperBowl. Great (I even cheered for the Bucs). But its now officially old news. We are now in a NEW season.

Why must you continue to rattle the monster's cage? PF makes enough infantile noise on his own, he doesn't need additional prodding. Although I'm sure he wouldn't mind the occasional probing. wink
PhillyFan
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

pewter, you've posted this before.. well you've posted the same thing... oh, 10,000 times.

Try something new.. try something different.. try posting something about this year...

Post the twinkie sales when sapp is in town for the home games...

Post the number of beating that pittman has put on his wife.

how bout why booger deserved the long contract over sapp...

How's chucky gonna find a running game?

come on something, anything... you've used the last years game too much and the sponge is dry.

How about how the O might make up for points if the D doesnt run out there and score all the td's they did last year...

who's picked the bucs to repeat anyway?

You see! I warned you. The monster's angry. tongue.gif

PF - If you don't know who picked the Bucs to repeat then you really don't watch the game, the pre-game shows, ESPN, pick up a football mag, etc.

I'm not going to list all the writers and publications that have picked them. you figure it out - if it's THAT important to you.

JIP -- great archival work.
Cadillac
You know what it is - PF's like George W. Bush, you can't stand to watch him, much less listen to a speech of his, yet you can't turn it off because he's so damn amusing with his characterizations and misuse of english and grammer.

I especially love Tally-ho....it reminds me of the "Pirate's Life" song at RJS.
mdphl
Pewter -- nice try but I'm really beginning to think that you have a thing for PF.
Herr Tiggee
In a very love-hate, S&M kinda way, I think. These boys need some good grudge sex to work this thing out.

I'll bring my camcorder.

Gee, next thing you know, we'll have an "unofficial" or "unauthorized" Phillyfan thread... wink eek!
Herr Tiggee
Heh heh. Funny. I'll have the video on E-Bay if anyone's interested. Maybe I'll even send a comp copy to PF's frat brothers.

Of course you do. Opposites attract, after all. wink
mdphl
Pewter -- I wasn't sure whether to respond to your attack on Eagles fans here or in the other thread. But the fact is that Birds fans, albiet long suffering, have been tremendously loyal and supportive of the team (if not always the "management"). This is reflected in the level of attendance (fairly high) that has remained relatively consistent for many years -- through good and bad times. Not the case with the Bucs. Also, many of the people who attended the Bucs games were there from the visiting teams' cities.
Cadillac
MD-

The Bucs CONSISTANTLY drew an average of 42,000 - 46,000 fans (in a much smaller metropolitan area then say Philly) in the days of Orange when Bucs ownership put little to nothing into the product on the field. I moved to Tampa from the Washington DC area in 1989 and have not missed a home game since arriving in Tampa. To say it was a culture shock to go from growing up a Redskin fan (moving from the DC area when they were at the top of the league) and becoming accustomed to winning seasons to becoming a Bucs fan when they were at the bottom of the league and adjusting to losing was a challenge. But there I was, at every game one of 40 something thousand frustrated fans. Enter new owners that actually wanted a winner and a new, jewel of the NFL, stadium and now I'm one of 65,000 season ticket holders (with another 80,000 on the waiting list for season tickets). Yes, it's been a long, and at times frustrating road, but well worth the reward.

Perhaps one day Eagle fans will be able to say the same thing.

mdphl
Pewter -- you completely missed the point! I don't doubt your loyalty to the team since you moved to Tampa Bay. Did you abandon your loyalty to the Skins?

Anyway, the fact remains that the fans didn't jump onto the bandwagon until they played well. For many Eagles fans -- sure we would like to win a Championship (many teams haven't) but that isn't what it is all about. Are Vikings and Bills fans any less fans because their teams never won the big one. The opposite is true (they are great fans)because they stuck with their teams even when they lost and didn't win it all.

Just wait and see what happens when the Bucs take a downturn. Hell, look at the DevilRays -- that says it all about the fair weather Tampa fans.

As to your continually reminding PF that you won a title last year -- I agree with ASU -- so what!

PF is right -- you are riding the bandwagon!
Cadillac
You just contradicted yourself...

You said you don't doubt my loyalty to the Bucs, then ended with I jumped the bandwagon.

Truth be told ANYTIME a team wins a championship there is going to be bandwagon fans, the Bucs have "fans" worldwide now that knew nothing about them 5 years ago. The new stadium assisted in a few "fan" jumping on back in 1998.

We've come to expect this "fuzzy" talk from Philly fans - we actually find it funny.

It's all good.

I guess the problem that Eagle fans have with this whole issue is Bucs fans are everywhere now. There are so many that it, for whatever reason, frustrates you. 10 years ago it was hard to find a Bucs shirt much less a Bucs fan. I know, I was looking for shirts to purchase and Bucs fans to party with at away games. Now I can pick from hundreds of Bucs things to buy and hundreds of Bucs fans to party with at away games.

That's what happens when Bucball takes ahold of the nation.

You know...

I pay attention to when i'm out and about watching my beloved Iggles. You can spot a bandwagoner ANYWHERE.

When i go to the eagles bar, it's been the same true blue fans... when i go to the bar by my house for the game, it's just me. When i see that change, i'll call them out and tell them to get away from me.

If they say PF go !#$%#$%^#$^ youself, they are real fans. They shudder, they are not.

As for the tampa bandwagon... come on. You dont go from... 40k to 80k waiting list without saying, those are true front runners. The rest of the country expects no less from your city.

Living in AZ, you see front runners everyday you attend a Jerry (dbacks) game, so i'm the expert...

What are you saying? There can only be one loud mouth on this board? PF is just a cute cuddly bear whose facade is a arragant, obnoxious, smart arse Philly Fan who can only dismiss Bucs fans as a means to get around the cold hard fact of last year. The cool thing is, ball is in his court, us Bucs fans don't have ANYTHING to prove, we already did. Hopefully for his sake, HIS team can do the same one day, but I for one am still enjoying the moment!
Cadillac
In reality the reason for the spike in the waiting list is not just due to the Bucs being Super Bowl Champs, but also due to the new stadium. It's truly an experience to see a game there. The old stadium was nothing more than a place to watch the game. Those of you in Philly that get to see a game in the new stadium should walk away with the same feeling. If you don't then the city wasted money constructing the stadium.

Why do you philly fans "care" so much about Bucs "bandwagon" fans?

All they have done is make my tickets a hotter commodity and helped us "true" fans be more aware of how fortunate we are to have been diehard fans for years, thus guaranteed a seat in the promised land - Raymond James Stadium or as locals call it - the Boneyard. The pleasure has definately been worth the pain.

I harbor no ill will towards them, there's plenty of room on the pirate ship for them. My take on it is this - you just HATE seeing all the merchandise, media coverage and Bucs fans. Get over it - it comes with the Championship title.

Or as Gruden would say "Jimmity Christmas..."

OK Pewter -- you made the point finally -- people in Tampa are now fans because of the Staium and the Championship -- THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT PF HAS BEEN SAYING FOR WEEKS!!!

As for you statement regarding jerseys, once people wore Cowboys stuff, later the same people wore Ravens stuff and now they wear Bucs stuff -- human nature. But the really great cities support their teams through thick and thin. Think Chicago, Philadelphia, New York.

You never did respond to my Devil Rays comment...

But it looks like you Bucs fans are now at least all in agreement that PhillyFan is a stud -- what the hell, you even gave him his own thread.

I am not sure what your question is dude? I can tell you PP is not a baseball fan, that's why he doesnt go to games. But I am from Tampa and root for them thick and thin, just as I did the Bucs all those losing years. Hopefully one day it will pay off.
Cadillac
I'm NOT a baseball fan and could care less if the Devil Rays stay or go.

Additionally, I could care less about "bandwagon" fans. PF's the one with a hardon for them.

I can tell you are a transplant (moved from DC in 1989), wonder if you moved again who you'd be rooting for.

I would NEVER make a statement like the above. I am not a fan of other pro sports other than baseball. But I would never want to see the Flyers, Sixers or Eagles leave Philadelphia. They are a part of the fabric of this city and although I might not care that much about them from a sports point of view, I would never say "I could care less" if they stay or go, because I do care.

RIGHT HERE YOU PROVED EVERYONES POINT.

I can tell you something right here... right now. Most eagles fans are happy to have a new stadium. Does it cause them to go to games they normally would not go to? NO. The Vet, the Linc, the parking lot down the street.. the fans would go to support and cheer their team.

Eagles fans dont need fancy little pirate ships. They dont need entertainment to get them in the stadium. In fact, i can tell you that most of us dont want the hoopla. Just a nice LOUD stadium filled with beer. No scoreboard is needed to let people know when to cheer. Eagles fans dont need little battle flags. Just a white towel to wave or cry in... your choice.
Cadillac
I'm glad that's how YOU feel. But really, who cares?

I went to the games in the old stadium, had a great time. Have an even better time in the new stadium. Better facility, Better product on the field.

Bandwagon fans don't *bother* me, I've been with the team since the days of orange. But as I've said before - there's plenty of room on the pirate ship for WHOEVER is and wants to become a Buc fan. I don't lose sleep over someone liking this team this year and that team next year. If you do then that's YOUR problem.

Jimmity Christmas!

So that's been your beef all this time?

I'm happy that you have been a Eagles fan for years, happy that I've been a Bucs fan for years, even happier that I have season tickets and not on a waiting list.

Unlike yourself, no one questions how long PF's been and iggle fan... how many games i've been to.. if i had a randall jersey a few years ago...

At the end of the day, the eagles fans are just tougher than the buc fans... that is all. You folks have no tradition, no history.. nothing. Well, unless the scoreboard tells you...
Cadillac
Whatever man,

What we DO have is a SUPER BOWL VICTORY, something you DON'T HAVE - to go along with your long tradition of losing when it counts.

We do have history. History will ALWAYS say the Bucs beat the Eagles in the Championship game to advance to Super Bowl XXXVII

I'll take the Super Bowl victory over whatever you claim to have, you're kidding yourself if you say you wouldn't.

You know,

this is why there cant be a full discussion on this game... or these teams.

By what you say about that buc D,you would think they are the 85 bears. Well, guess what.. they are NOT.

Each and every team in the NFL has short comings.. even the bucs.. namely the Offense. However, instead of tryting to point out a short coming the eagles may have... all you do is revert to some game last year that means nothing right now.

Hence if you wish to go back and forth FINE. But please bring something else but your ever-so-tired "we won the nfc championship".

I'm pointing this out because no one else will really go back and forth.. which i enjoy... however, you cant have a discussion (when backed into a corner) you scream, we won that game. Dude, it's a new season.. that doesnt get you nothing. so, let it go.

You are right! Consistently over the years they are better!

I agree with "Let's move on" because I am more concentrated that this years team will be better. Your arguement about the running game is basically muted by the fact that last year it was not that good but got us with the help of the offense to the SB. And how you can say our offense will not be any better is beyond me. How can you say that a very complex offense under Gruden cannot improve over time? As time went on last year, it improved and made the adjustments and improvements. The defense is almost completely intact, and if anything, Sapp has to stay healthy and have a phenom year in order to get a good contract, whether its here or anywhere else.

However, I do have to give you the benefit of the doubt ofcourse, because your heart is in Philly. So put away the stats and lets get this year going!
PhillyFan
I hate to break this to you, but... consistantly over the last few years, the eagles have a better D than tampa. Check the points allowed, sacks.. ect ect ect...

I'm sure based on "Phillyfan stats" the above is true, however, based on reality - Bucs D - has consistantly ranked higher, for a longer period of time.

I can't wait for 9/9 to not have to debate PF meaningless stats!

PF doesn't deal well with reality, by now you should know this Ken. biggrin.gif

OK, now let me get this straight...

You are calling the buc D the 4th best ever.. based up on an atricle written by the home-town rag, by a homer writer?????????????

Spare me that one please. At least, lets see something OBJECTIVE. If i want to see a myopic atricle like that i'll pick up the AZ Republic.

And OH ps the voting for the best d of all time, SURPRISE... it was the bucs of last year, go figure.

Cadillac
At least the "homers" got it right.

So what year was that ESPN piece wrote?

I've got a game to go to...
PhillyFan
So why does he rattle off that they are judged by sacks, points allowed... ect ect ect.. then never says where they stack up? Just says they played more playoff games in that period and more teams with winning records????????????? Then makes the excuse that Defense is harder to play now than before... huh? Sure there are new rules, but the technology is 10,000 times better... wouldnt that allow them to offset?

he never tells us how they stack up? He just says "oh somewhere between".. huh?

Why is he only going back 7 years? Why not 5? why not 10?

Rule number 1, if you listened to the homer writers in this world.. the dbacks would have won every game this year... RJ and schill would already have 20 wins...

If this is how you get any 411 down there in Florida.. i know understand why you posts stink most of the time.
