You're right, nothing to be scared of here. I'm saying you're getting scared about what's going to happen to your beloved on MNF.

OUCH! Jaws picks the Bucs to win the Super Bowl - AGAIN!

PF, I thought you said Jaws was a Philly fan?

Guess not....

http://espn.go.com/nfl/preview03/s/predictions.html

Looks like 9 of the "experts" have the Bucs winning the NFC title, 4 picked the eagles.

7 of them expect the Bucs to repeat. What's this ???? NONE of them pick the Eagles to win it all. Talk about NO RESPECT!!!

But that's why they play the game....

Are these the same "experts" who picked the rams last year?

Personally, i wish they all woula picked the "chicklette tooth" led giants to win the division.
PhillyFan
Did Fat Sapp take math in college or did someone take the tests for him?

Nothing like trying to pump up your numbers... where'd he get the Xtra INT? hmmmmmmmmm

Have another twinkie... or 10.

WHY do you Philly fans have an OBSESSION with Sapp? I'm SURE that Sapp is not the person that "updates" his website.

Regardless, who cares about a stat that is off by 1? Which STAT are you using to verify his is "wrong"?

I've made my case about Sapp before, while I'm glad he's a part of the Bucs D, I feel that this is the last year you will have to worry about him in a Bucs uniform. The Bucs D is too deep to pay him what he's going to demand. Someone else can pick up that tab...

So when did Jaws make the official jump onto the Bucs bandwagon?
Kenny
Glad to see my few days in the wicked wicked town of New Orleans did not keep you two from going at it! Love ya!

PS- my 40th birthday is Thursday, I expect cards and presents! biggrin.gif
Cadillac
40? I thought you were turning the big 5-0! Guess you just look older.

You know, I had never looked at Sapp's site till PF directed me there. Maybe PF spends more time on the Bucs sites then his birds sites?

Did you see the flash on the bucs web site? It's another good one!

Ok, i'll explain this ONE time. As someone who works for espn.. breaks down game tape... ect ect ect... he is supposed to be OBJECTIVE. So, in that why not pick the bucs? It's the easy chic pick.. or the rams.

Does that make him a buc appologist? Doubt it. As he may pick them... we all know who he's rooting for... so shove that up your pirate ship.
Cadillac
SOMEONE'S not happy with Jaws pick in showing his true colors are not for the team he played for but the team he does the broadcast for in the preseason.

Obviously, he likes what he has seen.

At least I am not the one spreading that nasty little rash all over Tampa! HA HA! Just cause you are pretty, doesnt mean you arent DEADLY! Now whatcha got to say there cradle robber? ohmy.gif

Don't look now, but someone's a little tense this week. Must be worried about something...

So what is the line on the game anyway?

I think Eagles are favored by 3.

Actually he does the preseason games on the Eagles Television Network. The first Eagles preseason game was an ESPN telecast, which I guess explains why he was available to do a Bucs game.
Cadillac
at least "our" history includes Super Bowl Championship (after all isn't that what all of THIS bitterness from you stems from)

What is your "defination" of "Prime Time" games? MNF?

Johnson passed just fine with the Eagles "pressure" in January (ZERO sacks - Eagles defense has downgraded - NOT improved, why should the Eagles D scare the Bucs?)?

Good to see you still including the Dungy Bucs in your 3-1 assessment. The Bucs are 1-1 against the Eagles under Gruden, 1-0 when it counted.

Trouble with the running game? Seems like that was Philly problem last time these two teams met!
OPPS! I'm using LAST YEARS GAME TO COMPARE, WHAT ELSE DO WE HAVE TO GAUGE THIS GAME???? IT's the FIRST game of the regular season. You're the "idiot", come on boy throw some of your useless stats at me...

Prime time, dont you know what that is? when the lights are on... national tv audience.

How exactly do you figure the Eagle D is downgraded? What exactly was downgraded?
Cadillac
yes I know what PRIME TIME is but you create your own defination of things and use "fuzzy math" with your stats. So you tell me is that 10-0 on MNF or does it include SUNDAY NITE, 4:00 games????

You're like George W.....

ONE WORD - HUGH DOUGLAS, he was the emotional leader of your defense. It would be like the Bucs losing Lynch, Brooks, Sapp (as far as what they do for the team - EMOTIONALLY).
PhillyFan
The last i checked... PRIME TIME was only covered by 2 networks...

ESPN and MNF. Playoff games taking place at night are also included. PRIME TIME... check it out. Go ahead.

hmmm, so hugh douglas was the only leader on the D.. is that what you are saying? If you are strictly speaking emotion... how is the D downgraded? No one will tackle now? Dawkins isnt a leader according to you? Troy Vincent?

Sunday 4:00 games are NOT prime time. They're in late afternoon. Prime time starts (East coast time) at 7pm Sundays and 8pm the rest of the week. A game is prime time if it starts during that time, or just before it. A game that starts at 4 and happens to be long and run into prime time doesn't count.

You see, ask for just a LITTLE analysis, and it wont happen...

tally-ho as usual.
Cadillac
Do you have a job? How do you have so much time to be on the internet?

Anyway...here's the answers to some of your questions.

On Filthy's defense there are too many question marks, beginning with DEs N.D. Kalu and Derrick Burgess ... also known as the men who will replace Hugh Douglas. Burgess' career got off to aa promising start (six sacks in 2001), but a foot injury limited him to only one game last year. And on draft day, Philadelphia used two of its first four picks on DEs -- Miami teammates Jerome McDougle and Jamaal Green.

Still, it comes back to Philly's D. Another injured starter, DT Hollis Thomas, returns, but he'll have to work to supplant either Corey Simon and Darwin Walker. The linebackers also have a new look, with Nate Wayne and Mark Simoneau taking over for Shawn Barber and Levon Kirkland.

While the other three teams in the division clearly took steps forward, Philly either a) took a step back, or cool.gif hopes to keep pace with the return of injured players. Either way, Eagles fans may again look for next year this year.

>> Impact Loss
DE Hugh Douglas -- Arguably the most high-profile offseason target, Douglas' departure leaves a huge void for Philly to try to fill. Over the past three seasons, he averaged double-digit sacks.

>> Eagles will miss the playoffs because ...
Philly's defense cannot overcome the loss of Douglas, which is not that far fetched. This defense will be tested throughout the season.

I've read and heard a number of football people express the opinion that the Eagles defense is better than they were last year.

By the way, your new fave Ron Jaworski was on the radio this morning and there was this little exchange about his TV work:

Jaws: "I also do preseason games of the Buccanneers--"
host: "Which means you're a turncoat!"
Jaws: "No, it means I GET A PAYCHECK."
PhillyFan
Dude, you cant multi-task at work? If i didnt, i'd go outta my mind.. but anyway...

Thanks for the copy and paste, i'm sure you stole someone's copyright... but anyway.

Let me address the LB issue for you. Wayne Vs Barber. If you look at last year, the same question were abound for barber taking over. I'll remind you of this.. wayne was the leading tackler for GB. That position is a slasher. Any decent LB who plays in this position for the eagles will put up numbers. If anything, perhaps wayne could be an improvement.

Simonwho at MLB. Speedy guy vs the fat kirland. DT's need to keep the OL off him to make tackles. That is the concern. i'll tell ya this, dont look for the long 71 yard pass vs that guy. He's too fast. Write this down right now, Gruden will try to run against him. He passed against the slow guys last year. Just some insight for you.

Here is what everyone is leaving out for the DL. Yes they are smaller, BUT... the eagles have 4 solid DT's. That leaves room for Darwin Walker to move to DE in certain run sets. Smaller they are this year, BUT there is more flexiblity. No question that you lose something when Hugh leaves. If wayne can pick up some of the slack on that side to blow up plays, well all is not lost.

What everyone fails to point out is this... the secondary. Lewis is a HUGE upgrade from last year. The games he played last year, he was a ball hawk.

The Jury will be out on this D till mid season, however, i see alot of answers to the questions people brought up. Yes, it hurt to lose hugh, but in the end it may be for the better.
PhillyFan
In the same regard.. the bucs have a converted CB moving over to safety. Dont you see that as a question mark?

Moreover.. that buc d scored alot of points last year... TD in game one vs eagles... TD in the playoff game. TD's in the SB right? Anyone who thinks that is a trend that will continue would be kidding themselves. How do the bucs intend to make up for this?
Joe in Philly
Saw this in the paper today:

QUOTE
The Bucs also named second-year pro Ryan Nece as the starting strongside linebacker for Monday night's opener against the Eagles. The son of Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott beat out Dwayne Rudd, whose offseason acquisition was viewed as an upgrade for the NFL's top-rated defense.
So he was supposed to be an upgrade but apparently is a flop instead.

And since I keep seeing my city referred to in the negative by a certain individual, I feel I have no choice but to offer a prediction of my own:

Philadelphia 31
Tampon 9

I'm not quite sure how much a marginal LB is going to hurt the Buc D.

The change at safety might just leave a gap. Why you ask? The bucs play that zone quite often in the secondary.

eh, predictions are bad luck. the only limb i'm going to go on is this... the eagles/bucs win a close game or it's an eagles blowout. I think gruden is going to try and run the ball. Reid will throw out the 3 headed running machine to wear them down...
Cadillac
LOL

Yeah, and who's going to get "wore down" in a night game the first week in September in PA? A team from PA or Florida?

Bucs Win.

OLD news dude....

and the Bucs STILL won't miss a beat.

But you can dream...

Starting pro-bowl... 2nd leading tackler.. middle LB goes down... Not a problem.
Kenny
The answer to your question about the Defense- It's called DEPTH, learn it and learn it well!

Cracks me up that you don't think this offense is much improved! Ok, keep believing that! I see them much improved on points per game this year.

Oh yeah, darn it, since your thread got deleted I do not have the "proof" But didn't YOUR "take it to the bank" picks include a Jets win??? Hmmmm... Hope all your followers didn't follow that advice Statman!
PhillyFan
OH DAMN, if puker had just kept his mouth shut, we would still have that thread! Your boy ruined it. Hence, there is no proof.

I'm gonna go ahead and call you guys out a bit. You cant be THAT myopic... or can you? In the age of free agency... NO ONE has that much depth. To listen to you guys talk... you have pro-bowl back ups. Spare me PLEASE.

There is no way you dont lose a little when your pro-bowl MLB goes down. This is the guy who calls your plays. You HAVE to have a little let down there. Whereas it might not totally effect the run d... there is a chance that the middle will be softer for some passes to the TE in the middle of the field.
Kenny
Well, I guess you are expecting me to say "Oh god, Shelton Quarles is out, we are done!" which ain't a gonna happen. I think his replacement will fill in fine. Will Philly maybe target Nate Webster? Sure.

I guess you are denying making the Jets pick? Typical. Wouldnt expect anything less of you.
Kenny
Good to be back in Philly, the cheesesteaks sucked in San Diego.

In checking out your local sites... I must say. Myopic and full of themselves come to mind.

Injuries will happen throughout the year to each and every team. The question is, how do you overcome these injuries. Fact stands, if the back-up was as good as quarles, he would be the starter. So now, you have the back up coming in late in the week taking over for the guy who calls all the plays on d. This is not easily dismissed as, "we're the deepest team in the league". Not true, no way, no how.

To listen to you Tampa fans, you'd think the bucs were the cowboys of the 90's. It's time to now come down off the mountain and face facts.

As was said in the philly article. The bucs got hot at the end of last year. Good job, but to proclaim this as the best d ever... the deepest team ever.. a team that will run the ball down people's throats (has to az card cast offs)...

Then you people are, in fact, kidding yourselves.

Yes, PF is a student of the game. "stats man" or whatever you want to call it. I will tell you this... those 90's cowboy teams scared the hell out of me. Those niner teams scared the hell out of me. The bucs do not, and never have.

From today's Phila. Inquirer--not the Daily News!--comes this brilliant bit of journalism:

QUOTE
WANTED: Warren Sapp, defensive tackle, Tampa Bay

Aliases: \"Bear,\" \"Chatty Chubby,\" \"Blabbering Blubber,\" \"Personal Foul, Defense, No. 99.\"

Description: 6-foot-2, 303 pounds when he has one leg on the scale...Should be considered fat and dangerous...Hairstyle ranges from bald to Stevie Wonder, circa 1974...Lost weight a year ago, but recent reports indicate he has had the munchies again; his belly worked for Goodyear during the off-season, accommodating an airborne crew of six...Most distinguishing characteristic is a perpetually open mouth...Sometimes wears a dark visor; in such cases can easily be mistaken for a screened-in porch.

Infractions: Talks more trash than the CEO of BFI...Has smuggled hoagies into fields around the NFL...An accomplished escape artist, he disappeared without a trace in NFC playoff losses in Philadelphia after the 2000 and 2001 seasons...Finally backed up his bluster with a run-stopping performance that helped Tampa Bay defeat the Eagles in the NFC championship game in January.

Why wanted: The Eagles will need to run the ball Monday night against a Bucs defense quick enough to contain quarterback Donovan McNabb. That means they'll have to find a way to neutralize Sapp. Offensive linemen might want to consider carrying cheesesteaks...Containing Sapp also means not having to listen to him jabber all night. Was surprisingly quiet on visits to Philadelphia before January...Has consistently bad-mouthed the Eagles and their fans. \"Who the hell are the Eagles to prove anything to?\" he barked in January 2001. \"I don't recall them having any championships.\"...Sapp won't miss Veterans Stadium since he grew tired of hearing that it was the only thing in the NFL bigger, rounder and more unkempt than Sapp.
Kenny
QUOTE

Gosh, and where is the never will?

Man you are such a drama queen at putting words in people's mouths...

I say... We have depth...

You hear or turn it into... We have the most depth of any team EVER in the history of the world and the universe! Good lord!

Cute article about Sapp from some sharp witted writer. Sapp loves the attention, so he gave him what he likes!

Thanks for the links!!!!!

The St. Petersburg Times is the "official" paper of Pewter Pirate so I didn't get to enjoy those articles.

Here's a link to that paper

http://www.sptimes.com/2003/webspecials03/...tball/nfl.shtml

Looks like PF is 0-1 on his "guaranteed picks" this weekend - they say these things work in "3's". I hope no "novice" took PF's picks to the bank!!!

Funny, looks like Nate read my post and agrees - the Bucs D "will not miss a beat". My only concern with Nate is he's much more physical and sometimes gets the yellow hankie for a late hit/unsportsmanlike conduct.

over run plays, give a nice 15 yards up in penalty, get out of his lane when pass rushing.

And as far as the depth dept goes.. i'm just looking at what i've seen you folks say... what your local rag says... what your team says...

Well THAT explains EVERYTHING - PF's a George W fan. He probably thinks ole "W" is doing a great job, record surplus he inherited - now gone and replace with record debt, millions of jobs lost, Iraqi a MESS, Saddam and Bin Ladin still alive, lied to the nation and the world to jusify war.....oh, i could go on but it's getting late.

The whole PF character makes COMPLETE sense now and nothing needs to be justified to make your point because in typical republican response - the truth will be twisted, questions not answered, lies, and if all else fails....he'll say you're unamerican because you don't support his president (or in this case, not a good football fan because you question his statement or "stats").

I wonder how he will twist the truth (and stats)and find an excuse for the Philly loss? Now he's even preping us with the Burgess injury (can you say kharma?) I bet he bought one of those little W. action figues.....God only knows what he does with it.

oh, i almost forgot....
