The Chargers are a surprising 4-3 right now and their next 3 games are against the Raiders at home, the Saints at home and the Raiders on the road. All 3 are very winnable.
And don't look now, but Drew Brees is 5th in NFL passer ratings. Of course now he'll probably go on and suck, but he's getting absolutely no credit so far......

This week should provide some good football. Five games match teams up with only 1 or 2 losses (or no losses).

NE @ Pitt
Giants @ Minn
Indy @ KC (KC has 4 losses but still a good match up)

It's almost like 2002 all over again, but this year the O-line is holding up so hopefully we avoid the flop. With the McCardell acquisition, the team is going for it this year.
As for Brees, he's playing the role of Jon Kitna this year. He may be the lame duck now, but it just might be duck season come free agency.

The whole MNF thing needs to change. It seems like it's bad game week after week.
The MNF game should be picked as the season goes on, like how ABC picks their college football games a week in advance. MNF doesn't need to do such a short advance notice, right now you should be able to tell what a good game will be in 2-3 weeks.
As for Brees, I've seen a couple articles about the Packers interest in him. I think he'd do well in the Packer offense, of course things depend on what Favre does.

I completely disagree. Most of the games on ABC this year have been competitive, interesting match-ups with the exception of the Green Bay/Tennessee game.
Thursday, Sept. 9
Indianapolis 24, New England 27
Monday, Sept. 13
Green Bay 24, Carolina 14
Monday, Sept. 20
Minnesota 16, Philadelphia 27
Monday, Sept. 27
Dallas 21, Washington 18
Monday, Oct. 4
Kansas City 27, Baltimore 24
Monday, Oct. 11
Tennessee 48, Green Bay 27
Monday, Oct. 18
Tampa Bay 21, St. Louis 28
and now tonight's upset by Cincy over Denver.

Some of these games may have turned out interesting, but they lack appeal. If there's no enthusiasm to watch the games, then a lot aren't going to watch them, even if they turn out interesting.
Many of these teams have losing records. Actually I think most do!
PhillyFan
Oct 26 2004, 11:13 AM
Yeah but most of these teams were supposed to be good. Cicny had not had a MNF game in years, the city and the fans were excited to have a game. Then they went out there and upset a good team on national TV.
That is what people tune in for. Plus you add that the pokes, GB, Minn, Philly etc will all draw large audiences... the format they have is good.
If you start pulling up the "best game" on the schedule... cbs and fox are going to have shit fits because you take their best game away.

Yeah,
I just saw this on ESPN. Not sure how this will effect the Balt game as that was going to me more up the gut running rather than westbrook's slashing.
Leven, Mahe, and Tapea really need to step it up.
I Did not see the TE's much is this last game save that TD from LJ. He and Stop, Drop, and Roll really need to get open in the middle again to open up the run.
I think we all knew Westy would miss a game here or there this season, NOW is when we get to see TO step up. Pinky is going to get more coverage also.
The Westy injury is really going to hurt next week in Pitt. I'm not so much concerned with it this week.

Oct 27 2004, 09:55 AM
I knew Westbrook wouldn't make it until midseason. I like this matchup for the Ravens. McAlister will shut down T.O., and the rest of the Ravens secondary will crush Pinky & Crew. I see a final score of something like 13-10 in favor of the Ravens.
As for Minnesota...Moss will return and start a new streak of games with a TD reception, oh yeah, and will get his 100 yards. Moore will get his 150 yards from scrimmage but Moe will take his TD again. I'd also like to see Bennett break a long one.

It's interesting that the Steelers have the undefeated Patriots at home this week, and have the could-still-be-undefeated Eagles at home next week. I wonder if such a thing has happened before.
The Steelers' Plaxico Burress
isn't happy. QUOTE
Despite the increased emphasis on not allowing defensive backs to manhandle receivers downfield, Burress doesn't detect any difference in how the physical Patriots are playing, especially Pro Bowl cornerback Ty Law.
\"They're arm-barring guys out of bounds, Ty Law's pushing guys 10-15 yards downfield, stopping in front of guys and bumping them when they're 20 yards downfield,\" Burress said. \"So I think it applies to everybody but them.\"

Eagles have had to score 30 or more points to win three times. Nobody has scored 30 against the Ravens and they have held held three teams under 10. Eagles may have their toughest challenge so far this weekend even if the Ravens do have 3 pro-bowlers out with injuries (and at least one of them, Heap, is offensive).
Joe in Philly
Oct 29 2004, 11:56 AM
The Eagles have hit 30-plus in a game 4 times -- but only in the Cleveland game did the opponent even get to 20 points, so they really haven't had to get 30 or more.
Baltimore's 3 Pro Bowlers that are out (Heap, Ogden, Jamaal Lewis) are all on offense, which is pretty mediocre to begin with. But they win with defense. So it will be interesting.

I was just about to correct that JIP. No they haven't "HAD to score" 30 points. I should have said they HAVE scored 30 points.
The key may be whether the officials are going to continue ignoring the bumping rules for receivers. Some receivers don't believe they're enforcing that new heightened level of scrutiny enough.
T.O is tough to push around but the Raven defense, like the Pats, seems to get away with it. Maybe playing at home will make the difference.

Oct 29 2004, 01:17 PM
I dont know what games you have been watching there sport, but i think they are calling the penalty too much.
TO getting open is not going to be the key, the key is going to be spreading the ball around to take the double team off of TO and getting the D spead out for the running game. If the Eagles can find LJ or stop, drop and roll for a few catches, that will open up the offense and the birds will blow out the convicts.
Secondly, the Brownies ran on the eagles in the frist half of that game, not the second half. In the first half the LB's were overshooting every play and being too agressive. Once JJ had them settle down in their lanes, the brown run game slowed down. Dont expect JJ to allow the Ravens to run, that is their only offensive weapon this week. Their QB can't beat anyone.
On a side not, i dont know what you even mean by scoring 30 plus points a game. Even with the eagles giving up 31 last week, they are in the top... ummm 6 in points allowed. They could have only scored an avg of 20 in those games and still won all of them.

Week 8 sees the return of last year's Rookie of the Year: Anquan Boldin. I'm quickly becoming a Cardinals fan, especially with their young WRs such as Fitzgerald, Johnson, and Boldin. Add in former Vikes coach Denny Green and it's almost complete. I think it will interesting to see how the Cardinals finish out the season with the return of Boldin. They face a touch D against the Bills this week.

Maybe I think too much from a receiver's point of view., or listen too closely to guys like Plaxico Burress whose assessment from watching Pat's games was that ref's were missing the bumping call a lot still.
But then a guy with Burress' height is going to get bumped because there is nothing the littler safeties can do once he gets past them.
I hope McNabb & co. can draw a little attention away from TO for a bit, with a more diversified offense. But those low scoring numbers for Raven opponents give me pause. No I haven't seen any of their games, but they must be doing something right.

I feel better about the Eagles chances this week against the Ravens then last week against the Browns. Everyone talks about the Ravens defense but remember they did give up 20 against the Browns and 27 against the Chiefs.
If you consider the fact that the Ravens will be missing Jamaal Lewis, Todd Heap, Devard Darling and Jonathan Ogden, their mediocre offense could be even worse.
Kyle Boller has thrown 2 TDs and 5 INTs, the other 4 offensive TDs were all scored by Lewis who is out. Kyle has passed for 81 and 86 yards respectively the last two games.
Bottom line is the Eagles can win this game by scoring 17 points, as long as they have no turnovers. Most of Baltimore's wins have been the result of capitalizing on 10 INTs. If Donovan has a clean game everything else should fall into place.

In other NFL notes - The new rules, New England has a blank check to virtually strip a receiver while the ball is in the air while the rest of the league plays by another set of rules. The Chiefs were raped today by the refs and still survived against Indy. What a joke!
