Full Version: Outsports Tournament Pool Disaster

Charlie in the Trees
I am officially the Cincinati Bengals/L.A. Clippers/Tampa Bay D-Rays/Prairie View A&M of NCAA Tournament Pools. I'm now tied for 298th place (out of a mere 313) in teh Outsports Tournament Pool. But I'm not satisfied with that level of mediocrity. I'm inalterably headed for the basement:

Pittsburgh, my bizarre and inexplicable pick to win the whole tournament, just went out in the Sweet Sixteen, losing 77-74 to Marquette, forever the Warriors, and freeing Ben Howland to move to U.C.L.A.

Get out of my way, you people in places 299-313. I'm heading right for ya and I'm gonna take you out (or up).
PhillyFan
Dont be sad, i also Pitt, not that we really got to see any of the game here... god help CBS if they took Duke off tv for more than 5 minutes.

Charlie, I think I am right there with you. In fact, I won't even check. I had Pitt too, and am very disappointed. JoeinPhilly, are you actually IN Philly and are you saying the CBS affiliate there didn't show the Pitt game?
PhillyFan
i'm not joeinphilly, and no i'm in Phoenix... and yes, they made sure they showed absolutely as much of the duke game as they could. Also, they would not even cut in for a 2 min look in when the wildcats were playing, even if the score was out of hand... however, thats understandable.
Joe in Philly
And I'm not PhillyFan. biggrin.gif However, I can say that they mostly showed Duke-Kansas here, and had only some cut-ins to the other game. And at the end, they were cutting back and forth so much it was a joke. You'd see the end of a play, then there'd be a timeout and they'd switch games, then you'd see the end of a play and that game would have a timeout and they'd switch back. They did it over and over and ruined what excitement there was in both games.

Tied for #304 here baby! Don't race me to the cellar too fast!

I still have 2 of my 4 Final Four picks. Go Wildcats and Wildcats!

Oh No fellas! I am dominating last place(313). It's mine to win. So stay out o' my basement.

Hey, it is better to go down in flames than to be the epitome of mediocrity, sitting in 155th place. At least I could be like my idol Charlie in the Trees and brag how bad I am at picking the Final 4. Sitting in the exact middle is worse than last place.

Damn those experts that talked about how wonderful the Pac 10 and the SEC was this year. It was, but only because of Arizona and Kentucky. Miss. St and Stanford were my downfall, and of course Maryland, who played like they wanted to lose for about 35 minutes last night. If they had played the first 35 like the last 5, they would have won by 10. But I think Mich St was the reason they played like that.

I am not in the Outsports pool, but am dead last in my office pool. What is truly trobling to me is that the leader freely admits to choosing teams based on their mascots and which places she would want to visit. She also won the office Oscar pool by choosing nominees she hadn't seen... At least I had Marquette.

My Mississippi State Bulldogs... GONE!
Defending champ Maryland Terps... GONE!
Last SEC hope Kentucky... GONE!

All that has to happen, is Arizona loses to Kansas tonight and I have no Final Four picks left. Last place baby! smile.gif

I'm in a Yahoo game and I'm in 4th place, but the leader has had all of his Final Four teams knocked out so I think I might win this one. In the Outsports game I am tied for 182nd. ohmy.gif

Meanwhile, I continue to have a lot of trouble accessing the ESPN game so I don't know how I'm doing there. I hate their website more and more with each passing day. It's so cluttered with garbage.

Texas could still screw up my forward progress into 313th place. They must lose today. I had them beating ... ummmmm ... Xavier! ... to make it to the Final Four.

Yup. I had Xavier making it to the Elite Eight. Was Xavier even in the NCAA Tournament? Didn't they lose to Siena in the first round of the NIT? Yet I had them winning three games in the NCAA's.

If Texas wins today, I'll have one team in the Final Four and no hopes of making any more progress toward my ultimate goal.
PhillyFan
Charlie, at least you had them beating Xavier, i had xavier going to the final 4...

The suffering is complete... got zero final 4 teams... Thanks to the NCAA for giving Syracuse a home game infront of the number 1 seed.

Syracuse beat Oklahoma fair and square... even the CBS commentators said *many times* that a veteran team like Oklahoma can win on the road in front of a hostile crowd no problem, and they have done it many times before... SU had to win their first two games away from NY to get to NY, and Oklahoma had their first two games in Oklahoma city... a mere 20 minutes from their campus, meanwhile Albany is 2 and a half hours from Syracuse...

Hey OK blew my bracket... however it does seem quite unfair that a 3-4 seed would literally have a home court advantage over a number 1 seed, dont you think? haha unless ur an alumni of the orangemen... This was a strange tourney.. dunno if there is really a team i like left...
NoLongerHere
Damn happy The Orange are in the final four.
Last time they were, I was a grad student @ Syracuse.

Well I guess they could've made Syracuse the number 1 seed- which in light of yesterdays results would've made a lot of sense. biggrin.gif I'm curious PhillyFan- what regional do you think they should've sent Oklahoma to?They really only had one tough game,so it wasn't like they had a difficult road to New Orleans.I don't think they really deserved a number 1 seed,so I'd say the committee was pretty kind to them from the get go.It was great for the Syracuse fans to be so close to the site, but I'd say they had very little effect on the game.Oklahoma was like UK, both comparatively weak offensive teams that relied on scoring resulting from their defense. When they came up against quality offensive teams that defend well and take care of the ball it was basically lights out.Hey if you thought Syracuse playing in Albany was an unfair advantage- why didn't you pick them in your bracket? biggrin.gif

As far as not liking any of the remaining teams-I'm just the opposite.I'd rather MSU over Texas, but much prefer the other 3 over the teams that could've won.I couldn't play the outsports pool because the site wasn't web tv compatable, but in the ESPN revise I have Kansas over Syracuse in the final.Hopefully a lot of people went with the Arizona/UK chalk- I had both of them getting eliminated on Sat.Talk about Dreams coming true... biggrin.gif
