With a record 8 excpetional teams coming the Big East, I can see realisticall the BE going 8-0 in the first round.
Additionally, The Big East tourney played in the Worlds Most Famous Arena hit a grand slam by demolishing previous TV ratings of conference tourneys.
Mission Accomplished!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!! ROTFLMAO !!!! The big east gets the distinction of being the first conference with a loss in the NCAA tourney, as Seton Hall (which trounced WVU in the regular season) is annihilated by mid-major Wichita State.

Seton Hall did smack around NC State ( 4th best ACC team)by 20 down in Tabacoo Roads.
In placing a record 8 teams in the tourney, one could expect a couple losses.
BC ( the 2nd best team in the ACC) sure looked today in 2 OT's against the West Coast power called Pacific.

Normally not big into Wichita State nor am I anti-Seton Hall, but Billy Packer and Jim Nantz, even for just a couple hours, turned me into a Shockers fan.
Not a good start for the Big East. And Syracuse has a TOUGH one tonight with Texas A&M.

Going back to topic....
Texas A&M is giving Syracuse a good run late in first half right now. G-Mac has nothing really statistically except turnovers.
Pitt has 2 starters (Benjamin and Gray) ill this week. Benjamin didn't even make the initial trip to Auburn Hills. Biggs, who's in the rotation, has been on crutches with a calf injury. Going to be interesting if that affects the Panthers tomorrow.

My new prediction: Not only will the "big east" set a record for the number of teams in the NCAA tourney this year, but they will also set a record for the number of losses by a single conference !!! wink
My prediction:
WVU vs. S. Illinois will be one of the most closely watched games in Outsports history.

As a Big East fan, I am humbled. But I also never expected them to go 8-0 in the first round! That was craziness. Syracuse had NO business being a 5 seed and I am not surprised at all that they lost. How does one go from the Bubble to a 5 seed on the strength of a streaky player hitting a hot streak? And Seton Hall had no business being there to begin with. Neither of those losses was unexpected. I did think Marquette would beat Alabama, though, and I think we'll have a better showing today. At least I hope so!

cincy would have fared better than those 3. They had a lot of obstacles to overcome in losing Huggins during the season and I think they did an admiral job holding on. Andy Kennedy is a good coach and would have had his boys ready.
CU, I completely agree with UT being a bad # 2. They never should have been one. They were playing their worst ball at the end of the year. I don't know if they are tired or what. UK and Arky will complete the story today.
WVUBuff
Mar 17 2006, 10:57 AM
Cincy should have been dancing long before Seton Hall.
Reagardless, that is only one team. Syracuse was hardly a resmeblence of the team that tore through the BET. It resemebeled the Orange's play of the regular season.
Also,I exepected more from Marquette. Although, there is nothing to apologize in losing to Alabama in basketball ( ask Auburn fans about this).
That being said, there are other Big East teams that still haven't taken to the court yet. A 5-3 record is still probable. For most conferences, a 5-3 or even 4-4 record calls for celebration. For the BE, its the norm.

And just like that, the Big East is 3-3.
Gtown won.
WVU demolished Southern Illinois.
Nova is in the final minutes of their win.
With Northwestern State's upset of Iowa, WVU looks good to advance to the Sweet 16.
Georgetown looked impressive too.
With UCONN a certainty tonight, look for Pitt to play well too.
While 5-3 is good, by Big East standards, we expect better.

It was just a "get away" trip. My cuddle buddy (aka: the Ex) and I went to the "Big D" Friday. It rained all weekend long, which was no biggie since the mid-west forgot what rain was.
Friday night, we hit the bars on Cedar Springs: Jr's (pub), Throckmore Mining Co. (leather), S4 (dance club; I have to have my techno fix) and had multiple beers. I love the bars there because they all have balconies you can hang out on and watch the crowd outside. Plus there are the really hot guys wink
Saturday, we checked out the West End but it was dead due to the rain. The West End Market is just a sad little mall anymore. It had/has specialty shops but not as many as there use to be. I wanted to go by the American Airlines Center and grab a NCAA tee but never did.
We went out Saturday night and spent most of our time at S4 with a side trip to the Throckmore Mining Co. The cool thing about S4 is that it stays open until 4 (no booze after 2), but we left about 3-ish. We had some personal business to deal with wink and got to bed about 5 AM
We rolled back into Oklahoma about the end of the WVU game.

WVUBuff, looks like we'll meet again in Atlanta - Texas and WVU. Horns looked better on Sunday but they aren't where I'd like them to be. They finally found the 3 point shot. Buckman is still so inconsistent Coach Barnes can't rely on him.
Just got in from the Dallas trip. AAC is a good venue. The rain was the only issue for the weekend. Almost missed my flight due to street closures in Dallas. To top that off all of Southwest computers were down at Love Field. They had to dig out the old plastic cards for boarding. 2 hours late but finally home.
Looking forward to the Thursday game and the rematch Regional (Texas-WVU, Texas-Duke or WVU-Duke). I'm wondering if the committee did that on purpose.
Glad Jim put Chris Walker's videos up on the front page. I still laugh my ass off seeing Chris and his roommate doing the Moulin Rouge take off. I also love seeing Matt's pelvic action in Thug Luv. The boy would make a good male dancer. Just wish the Aggies were still in the Dance. Maybe next year.

Too bad those regular season wins don't count for crap once you are in the NCAA tourney. Pitt was one and done. WVU is still in. That's too bad isn't it? There's you your question.
Pitt sucks and is an embarrassment to the Big East since they can't even beat a lowly 14 seeded team.

Hey bee-yatches....I'm still here and with my head held proud--considering UNC started the season as a big question mark, supposed to finish 6th in the ACC and doubtful for the tourney. My baby Heels did a great job and we'll be near the top next year.
I'm here to give the Big East its props. It is having a very successful year, almost as good as a normal ACC year. I even picked a Big East team to win the title. Enjoy it while you can.
WVUBuff
Mar 20 2006, 01:15 PM
Get use to it.
Even if the babies evolve out of diapers next year, Duke will be average at best next year. UNC might be a top 10 or might not. BC loses everyone.
Who is left? Clemson? They will be a NCAA type team, but hardly a top 25 team.
ACC basketball with the additions of dismal basketball schools like VT, Miami, and BC have hurt the conference overall.
The ACC is just a shadow in comparison to Big East basketball. Deep down, you know its accurate too.
Good luck with those diaper changings this offseason.

Predictable response, derby. Is that what you were thinking (that the games WVU lost don't count) when you were losing them? Considering Pitt returned exactly one starter and NO ONE expected them to win 25 games this season, we're all holding our heads up high. Your team of seniors have lost, what, 10 games and 11 happens at the end of the week. Go Horns! And Go UConn, Nova and Georgetown!
WVUBuff
Mar 20 2006, 01:52 PM
DnD, why does WVU have 10 losses?
While Pitt was playing Pitt Catholic School for the Blind before the Big East regular season, WVU was playing
@Oklahoma
Texas
Kentucky
@UCLA
LSU
Also, Pitt had the weakest schedule in the Big East in comparison to the rest of the top 6/
Pitt only played Georgetown ONCE and didn't play Villanova at all during the regular season.
Keep me posted on next year's development Coach B isn't considered one of the best in the game for no reason. He will have the EERs ready next year.
John Beilein is among the best coaches in the country" But, according to Tigger no one ever says these things & I only imaginge COach Beilein is regarded in this capacity.

Joe is going to be an outstanding PG floor general for WVU. I'm very surprised PC didn't go after the kind until late in the recruiting process. He's been the Rhode Island state player of the year two years in a row & led team to three state championships, right?
He's the perfect PG for Belein's offense. If you ask Coach B, he hasn't had the true PG to run the offense even thought current PG JD Collins is good, Joe M. is more the type of PG coveted to make the offense click the way its suppose to.
How is PC's class looking?

Proper and player development is much greater than recruiting as proven by WVU's recent success in BOTH football and basketball. We don't get the highly recruited players coming out of high school. We get the ones that don't have the prima donna attitudes that are hungry to win.
Coachable players. Smart players that are taught by intelligent coaches. Player development and coaching is what pitt lacks.

the pc fans like their class. they're bringing in several guards and still looking at another one. i think villanova's success has got a lot of coaches thinking that an extra guard (or in their case, two) on the floor is not such a bad thing.
providence had a very productive freshman class this year despite the players being lowly rated by the recruiting experts. the thinking is that the players who sign with the dukes and carolinas of the world get ranked higher as a result of signing with the big boys. not sure i totally agree but there is some merit to it...
