Full Version: Lack of Respect??
Outsports Discussion Board > Outsports > Basketball, College

Anyone else out there as mystified as Mike Davis,Yours Truly, and the millions of us in HOOSIER NATION about the lack of respect being shown IU in the polls? It's comical that teams are rated ahead of us based on recruiting classes-I mean we are talking a team that was 2 min away from the NCAA Title.

Unfortunately, Tim, the words "improbable run to the Championship game" are still alive and well in the dubious minds of the voters. I think Mike Davis has done one of the most amazing jobs in college b-ball in the last 25-30 years, but not many people whose job is to write or talk about college hoops seems to be noticing. He'll just have to keep winning quietly, I guess.

That could have its advantages. Nobody expected IU to get past the first round last year, but we did.

Hey, at least now we have a basketball coach who's known for
basketball!!!

Oh, winning quietly DEFINITELY has its advantages. That's how Pittsburgh made it through the Big East at 13-3 last year.

Mike Davis has done an awesome job at IU, I for one underestimated his ability and the IU roster. I thought they were a marginal top 25 team at best and they are much better. It's also nice to see the focus on the players as opposed to their dictatorial coach.

Well nobody voting in the polls votes for the coach's ability to coach, except maybe in the case of Duke.
They vote on the team. And if youre going to compare Indiana being runner up to the national title last season to this yr's squad which is 6th in the Big Ten, then they deserve to be snubbed, especially when there are finally teams in the Top 25 getting the respect they deserve.
Sorry for being so harsh
Tim
Hey Dallas-I don't think you are being harsh, but I'm not sure why you posted here. This thread (to me) is dated-I started it and posed the question back in Nov-when the Hoosiers were playing very well and clearly being underrated. Unfortunately, neither one of those conditions is currently true. This team lost it's focus in that last minute of the Ky game, and have not been able to achieve the level they were playing at since then.My post on lack of respect was for the situation at the beginning of the season, when IU clearly was being snubbed. They actually played a lot better with that chip on the shoulder mentality, and I'd have t say that their fall from grace is more a mental problem than a physical one.I hesitate to blame Davis, because I think he demonstrated his coaching ability last year.It is frustrating to see them fall apart in the second half of games in which they clearly dominate the first half-both Louisville and Wisconsin spring readily to mind.Clearly this team has tons of talent, but for whatever reason is suffering from a lack of mental toughness and preparedness.

Wasnt paying attention to the date because someone just posted on this thread this month. Never saw it before.
