Anyone else catching games live this weekend? My friends and I are headed to Indy tomororow. Illinois plays Notre Dame in game 1, and then Marquette plays Missouri. Two potentially great games (or two that go in the toilet quickly -- we will see).

This will only be my second time to the men's tournament. Both times to opening weekend. I have made it to the Women's Final Four a couple of times.

I am sure we will need binoculars at the RCADome, but it will be great fun to be in there with all the other fans.

Enjoy your trip Charlie. It looks like you'll see two great games.

I'm definitely envious Charlie -- you should get to see two great games (not to mention more than your share of cute athletes on every one of those four rosters tongue.gif )....enjoy the trip and the games and be sure to give us a detailed report when you return.

Well, could not have asked for better basketball. Once we got into the RCA Dome -- slight delay for security checks -- it was great spectating.

Those very cute outside sharpshooters from Notre Dame really played up to their full potential in game one. I liked them all season, but was dismayed to see them sputter down the homestretch. So, I was surprised to see them in control of the Illini pretty much from the outset. The Irish hit an absurd number of threes, and Danny Miller poured in the points. Chris Thomas made some poor decisions running the squad in the second half, but Illinois could not close the gap.

Then game two was really top-notch stuff. Marquette also revived themselves at just the right time. Their game Thursday against Holy Cross left something to be desired. However, they could not have played much better today. They bombed away the entire game and made somewhere around 60% of their field goals. They hit 100% in OT.

Missouri played catch-up all game, but should have won in regulation. Ricky Paulding (with 36 points at the end of the day) had a chance to drive with a couple ticks left, but pulled up for a 3 (the score was tied). Arthur Johnson rebounded the miss, but time expired and OT ensued. This, after Mizzou made up a 7 or 8 point deficit in the closing two minutes.

Marquette was magnificent in OT. Mizzou scored 12 points in the period, which will often win you an OT game. Marquette scored 21!!! Including six field goals (out of six shot), and six free throws (out of six shot). They just could do no wrong. It was disappointing to see them win, but the game was very entertaining.

Almost 26,000 at the Dome for the proceedings. Lots and lots of green from South Bend. Marquette also bussed down a tremendous number of fans.

So, sixteen hours after my day began, I am back home wondering how tomorrow could measure up to today. We will see.

Too bad we didn't meet up at the Dome, charliecstl. They were a couple of great games and Marquette was very impressive in the OT. I was pulling for Missouri, and they made a nice comeback, but Marquette was awesome.
