Anyone heard anything substantial?

I would assume there's no real search until Roy Williams give the definitive word one way or the other. Supposedly he doesn't like the new AD at Kansas, plus this team was senior-heavy, so if Williams is ever going to bolt KU, this would be the time.
(Apparently Matt Doherty thinks the Williams thing is in the bag and that's why they pulled the quick trigger on him.)

From a Kansas fan, and resident's point of view, all odds are that Roy will be heading to NC soon. His wife and kids have been living in NC for several years now. With the strained relationship that all the coaches at KU seem to be having with AD Bohl, this will be when he makes his decision to head east.
I have never seen him pushed so far as he was in the interview last night by Bonnie Bernstein. His comments came unexpectedly, but were very appropriate. Way to go Roy!

I heard that and that's why I'm doubting that he will go to UNC. You never know.

From all of the accounts that I have read and heard from ESPN, he would seriously consider staying if the AD is fired. I think that the Kansas administration would definitely have consider doing that after everything that Roy has done for the school. He seems to have alot of leverage in this situation. The AD has only been there for about 2 years, while Roy has been there for 15 years.

Well now SmoothRon, the Kansas AD has in fact been fired. So like you said, its doubtful they'd do that if Williams had any intention of leaving. The former AD Al Bohl claims Williams maneuvered to have him ousted.

just saw the story on the Kansas AD
I don't care where he lands but I hope his school next year beats the absolute shit out of Kansas in every sport imaginable

Roy Williams's body count keeps rising.
First, Matt Doherty. Now this Al Bohl guy.
Wouldn't have expected such a mild-mannered guy as Williams to be a serial career killer.

I say we wait until UNC comes up with a list of candidates.
Have you ever heard any coach saying theyve spoken with another team for a job *before* theyre hire?

KU has just made an official announcement that Roy Williams has resigned as coach. This happened just moments ago.

according to today's ny times, it is official, roy williams will leave kansas to become the tar heel's coach. i'm of two, or three, minds about this. all this hopping around by coaches who take "tier 2" programs to the top, while trying to trade up to one of the marquee jobs makes me bemoan the lack of loyalty among today's coaches. (where have you gone don haskins?)
second, i'm glad to see unc get a proven coach who can put back on top again. it is sad when the mighty fall (unless it's the yankees!)
third, why the hell did he bother to force out the ad if he was going to take the unc job anyway? seems a tad petty to me, and trust me, i know from petty.

Don't claim to be an expert in Kansas basketball, but have recently moved to Lawrence so I've heard a lot this past week about Roy as well as the AD situation.
Roy did not force Al Bohl out at KU. Appears that he (Bohl) did a great job of getting himself fired. In fact, after he made his outrageous comments the day of his firing, numerous coaches at KU came to Roy's defense. Having been with the KU fans in New Orleans for the Final Four, and knowing several people who work in high ranking position within the university, my conclusion was that Al just didn't fit in at KU. He appeared to rub people the wrong way.
Watched the complete press conference last night from Chapel Hill. It seemed to me as though Roy did not want to leave KU, but felt an obligation to do so. He kept reiterating that he felt it was "the right thing to do". Never once did he say how excited he was about the prospect of coaching UNC. It was obvious how difficult the decision was for him. Everyone here wishes him the best in Carolina.
I'm guessing KU will land on their feet. It is one of the premiere programs in the nation.

Huh? You can't be talking about Roy Williams and KU, then. KU is one of the most storied programs in college hoops; they in no way can be considered a "Tier 2" program. And Roy Williams was there for what, 15 years? Hardly Larry Brown or Rick Pitino-like, is it?
And loyalty is a two way street you know. If the KU AD was an ass, which by all reports he was, then what does Roy Williams owe the dork? Not a damn thing. I'm sure Roy's displeasure factored in to it but when you alienate a large portion of the people working for you, it's tough to lead.
Roy Williams will always be a favorite of mine after the way he handled JaRon "Now An Alcoholic" Rush thing. After JaRon said that he was wavering about going to KU because he "didn't like Roy's substitution pattern"--not "Coach Williams", not "Coach", but
Roy--Williams held a press conference soon after and said JaRon Rush would not be attending KU. Good for him.
Roy Williams left at the perfect time; he had his best chance to win a title this year and he couldn't get it done. Now he gets to go to his dream job and cry at press conferences in his home state. I love Roy crying at press conferences; he and Len Mattiace are so my new boyfriends.

I didn't see any tears from Roy Williams from the press conference photos. Anyone see a video of it? Any tears from Mr. I Cry At The Drop Of A Hat? I love me some Roy Williams cryin'.
And Scott Williams. Woah.
I can't stand UNC--to me, they are forever frozen in the early 70's with Dean Smith and his appalling 4 Corner Stall--but I hope Roy Williams is successful there and finally gets his national title.

JA, i've got to stop being sarcastic. it doesn't translate into print. my apologies. of course, kansas isn't a tier 2 program, which is why i put tier 2 in quotes.
my primary pique is the lack of loyalty among coaches and the effects therefrom. in this case, kansas has a long a storied basketball history, but when roy williams jumps ship to coach unc (historical ties aside), it sends the message that unc is preferrable to kansas. and now coach self goes to kansas, denoting that the jayhawk program is a better place to be than illinois.
graduation rates aside, these are all elite, clean programs -- the best of the best. but now we have a definite hierarchy: 1. unc, 2. kansas, 3. illinois.
just once i'd like to see a coach say, "this school has been good to me while i built the program. and the program is as good as any. i'm not leaving to take the (fill in the blank) job."
thus my reference to don haskins.....one of the greatest coaches who was in the game for the love of the game, the love of the kids, the love of his school, and who didn't hop around collecting ever bigger coaching jobs like so many trophy wives until something better comes along.
i meant no insult to kansas, in fact, i am annoyed how williams's departure demeans the program.
