OK, I went back as far as 12-31-05 and didn't see a thread dedicated to the Friars, so I thought it's about time to start one, especially with their sitting atop - however unsteadily - their division right now after beating Texas by making the most of an embarrassing error at third base. Still though, they have the thinnest lead of all the divisions which makes me fear for them this Fall, just as I did the last. Meanwhile, we'll take what we can and I'm looking forward to attending their next game when they're back in town.

The Padres, who remain 1 game back of the Dodgers for the lead in the mediocre west, picked up Russell Branyan from Tampa Bay for minor league pitcher, Evan Meek, who probably will inherit the Earth. wink

Bestowed by you, Adam, title will definitely pass! wink

Speaking of fathers, I'm pleased to see the Friars back just one game again, after their exile from Eden that started about two weeks ago.

Don't forget the SD Outsporters' meetup at Top of the Park this afternoon at 5:15. Wear a green shirt and look for us on the SE corner of the rooftop!

Not for nothing, but.....

This gives the Padres five former Buffalo Bisons. Shouldn't be a big deal except Buffalo isn't and never has been affiliated with the Padres. Weird how things turn out.

BTW, those five players are:

Brian Giles
David Roberts
Josh Bard
Alan Embree
Russell Branyan
