Full Version: Howland to UCLA?

I am bitterly diappointed that my beloved Panthers lost to Marquette, and they lost only because Marquette deserved to win. But the way Howland handled the situation with Donatas Zavackas (he held him out after "Z" threw a hissy fit for being taken out at the 8-minute mark) was brilliant and gutsy. Pitt won because of teamwork and unselfishness all year. And Ben Howland decided he was going to PROVE that that's the ONLY way you win. Ben...PLEASE DON'T GO!!!!!

I think Ben is off to UCLA, he's an LA guy. He coached at my alma matre (NAU) before leaving to pitt. We all knew he would turn that program around. His nau teams made 2 ncaa appearnces, one the year he left but they were still his guys. 2 trips to the NIT too. UCLA is a prime time job tho, so you cant blame him for leaving. Doesnt he have some good recruits coming in next year? I'd much rather he stay at pitt, cause i dont know how much i could ever root for UCLA even with him there...

First, sorry for confusing you with Joeinphilly in the other thread. Duh! Anyway, yes, Howland has some good recruits coming in...and Pitt is doing everything it can to keep him. They have already worked out new contract terms to present to him and are determined that he will stay here. But we'll see. I would hate to see him go.

Saw something today regarding Howland and his meeting with the Pitt team. A couple of the players came out and gave a "terse no comment" to the press.

He's gone.

Even though I HATE Pitt, it's a shame to see him go. The old Big East powers will rise once again. I dislike Georgetown and the others. Pitt gave them a run for their money.

Sorry Pitt fans he is gone. Was sad to see him leave NAU, but he's always said UCLA would be his dream job and that is where his family is... Lute's got a new compeditor in conference.

It's old news by now, I know, but I don't blame Ben a bit for wanting to coach the team he rooted for as a kid. Who wouldn't want to do that? But WHEN are these guys going to learn how to handle situations like this with a little more thought and class??? I mean, couldn't he have just told them he was interested but he wouldn't talk with them until after Pitt finished its season? Stories are that he was talking with them during the Big East Tournament, for chrissakes! I just think these guys are all from the same, stupid mold.

Pitt is apparently trying to woo Wake Forest coach Skip Prosser. Hopefully he'll tell his players before he tells the world! tongue.gif

Skip Prosser would be an interesting match for Pitt. He's from Pittsburgh and got his coaching start about an hour from there in Wheeling, WV for I think a Catholic high school.

I think he went to Navy as an assistant next.

What intrigues me the most is that John Calapari is interested in the position.

Pitt interested in Wake Forest's Prosser
