Full Version: College hoops fan needs Outsports
Outsports Discussion Board > Outsports > Basketball, College

An article in this week's Wash. Blade declares "For a growing number of gay guys, the NCAA tourney is an annual rite of spring" and profiles a DC area man (a Jayhawk fan) who plans his vacations around March Madness.

His problem: he "wished out loud that someone started up a message board for local gay college sports fans." Come to outsports guy! (sometimes we do actually discuss sports on the board ...)

I don't get this though -- "College hoops -- they're not just for lesbians anymore" ??? The Blade needs some educating! If we're fighting that type of stereotypes within the "community" how do we hope to fight it in the world at large?

Send the Blade a letter informing them of Outsports...and maybe let them know that there are such things as running water and electricity as well. We'd like to at least get them into the 20th century, now that the rest of us are in the 21st. rolleyes.gif

I will write a letter to the Blade -- let them know about outsports .. and give them this tidbit -- in my office NCAA pool, the current leader is a gay colleague. My bf (who just happens to be gay ...) is in second -- poised to take the lead with a Marquette win in NOLA.

We're whipping the straights!

Just FYI, I tried emailing the Blade at its published address, news@washblade.com, and got a Delivery Failure Notice saying "Recipient's mailbox is full, message returned to sender." However, editor@washblade.com didn't bounce back, so maybe they got it.

I guess since nobody in Washington sees good basketball, then they assume gay guys are in the minority watching the sport. wink

But I know as a former resident of North Carolina, every gay guy regardless of whether they actually like sports or not would pay attention to college basketball. Its damn near religious on Tobacco Road. I was made a college basketball fan when I first moved to the state in 1987 in 5th grade, and then became a street baller later on.
