Full Version: Providence was robbed!

Anyone see the ending of the Providence-Texas game. The Texas player drove the length of the court with the game tied in OT and put up a shot that appeared to leave his hand after the clock read 00.0 The problem was that the horn and light did not go off and apparently that is what the refs go by. Unbelievable...if the clock says 0..then there is no time. I dont get it. After reviewing the play for 5 minutes the refs let the play stand and gave the win to Texas. In a situation like that they should let the teams decide on the court. PC had rallied from 21 down to take the lead in regulation until Texas forced overtime with a 3. PC is going be a dangerous team and may contend for 2nd place honors in the BE this year.

By the way while Brian Boddicker is hot on Texas. He had a pretty bad game overall. I did not come away impressed with his playing abilities as he fouled out in regulation.

Providence deserved to lose a game where no one got in front of that guy once- it was a fitting ending to five horrid minutes of basketball for them.

From an AP report on the game, the referee said, "The first eight times we watched it we couldn't see the light go off because of the ball and three zeros does not end a game, the light does..." If that's the rule the call was correct.

Fact: the ball was shot after time ran out.

Fact: refs go by the light for the shot clock and for the end of the game.

Fact: Providence was playing at HOME. If they can't get their own damn equipment to work right and it costs them the game, that's their own damn fault.

The rule should be changed...why have a clock then. I do agree they played no defense.

I think once again on this board we see the anti-Big East bias

How do you feel about the "anti-Big East bias" that leapfrogged the one loss Duke Women's basketball team over #2 Undefeated Texas Tech and #3 one loss Texas which beat Duke earlier in the season for beating UCONN at the buzzer? rolleyes.gif

PC was not robbed. The replays clearly show the ball out of the player's hand before the light lit (which is the rule). The throwing of objects such as beer bottles (which caused a Texas walk-on to require several stitches) was pretty disgraceful.

The officiating was pretty horrendous in that game all the way around. What conference were they from?

I totally agree that Texas Tech is getting the shaft for not being #1.

When the clock reads zero that should be it period. The rule is bogus. The ball left his hand with the game clock reading 0.

The throwing of objects is uncalled for in any venue. As for refs they are inconsistent from whatever conference they come from. They were pretty bad tonight at the RU-UConn game calling chippies but missing elbows to the face.

providence played a poor overtime, but showed a lotta' guts in coming back from down 21.

they travel to rutgers (who showed against uconn they're tough) on saturday. should be a good one.

Faydman...Ill be at the RAC for that one too. Should be another great Big East down to the wire dogfight but I expected RU to beat Providence.
