Well my Chiefs just finished off their first pre season tournament and went 2-1. Not bad at all. We beat Kamloops a team that has always owned Spokane and then beat Seattle the following night, but lost badly to Vancouver 6-2 last night in a preseason game in Everett...
Hopes and wishes are running very high here this year, as this is the season that big Daddy Owner Bobby Brett has guaranteed the fans the Chiefs will make the playoffs, or he is refunding a certain amount....
In the off season we have retained the same Coach we had last year, and kept the same GM that I and many other Chiefs fans had some serious questions about, Tim Speltz, who has pretty much been with this franchise from the get go....
I have not heard any new season predictions yet, but the word so far is the goaltending should be really strong this year with standout pickup Kevin Armstrong who was attained in a trade from Saskatoon last year and returning, and two other new comers...
I have heard where we seem to have gotten some really good pickups in the draft as well.....
Starting to get excited about the prospects. Still another pre season tourney in Tri-Cities and one exhibition game here, and then the puck will drop...finally!

Hey River. Nice being back again, eh??? Well my CHiefs are playing some pretty good pre-season hockey it seems as they knocked off Seattle 3-2 in a pre-season tournament in Tri-City yesterday afternoon. Our record is now 3-1, and we play Tri-City tonight...
I would sure like to know who the scheduler is in the WHL. We don't play our first home game here until like Oct. 7th, I think, against Tri-City. Thats bad!!!! Something like 4 road games all at the end of this month. That sucks!!

Hey River! Well its hard to believe, but the season begins this week, with HIGH hopes here in Chiefstown, esp. after the Chiefs had a 5-2 preseason record. The only losses were to Tri-City, and Vancouver, who looks to be tough again. Chiefs are in Cranbrook to visit the Ice on Saturday night I believe, and have 4 straight road games before we have our season opener here against Tri-City on Sat. night Oct. 7th. Outta my way, I am off to hockey, its Saturday Night!!!

According to the writers of the WHL, they pick the Chiefs as unlucky # 13 overall for the upcoming season. River, you will be pleased as the Cougars are picked at # 5 overall....both Seattle and arch enemy Tri-City were picked just ahead of my Chiefs. I am going to say the Chiefs deserve a bit better ranking based on what I have read, and heard in preseason where we went 5-2, with only losses to Vancouver, and one to Tri-City. Vancouver, who will host the Memorial Cup was picked at #1. Heres hoping the Chiefs view this as totally wrong, and start out the season with a bang, and a victory in Cranbrook Saturday night!

The new kids on the block, in this case, the Chilliwack Bruins made their WHL debut with a win last night 3-1 over Kelowna. I understand the crowd was in full party-raucous mode according to an article in my paper here. Before the game there was tailgating, fireworks and mockups of both the Memorial and Stanley Cup being tossed around for the fans. Sounds like a hoot to me....
In other news, the league kicks off big time tonight. The game I am going to be watching will be Tri-City at Kootenay. Then of course the Chiefs travel to Kootenay tomorrow night with me in tow, to play the Ice. Woo-Hoo.....

I can tell you the trip to Cranbrook was fabulous. Spokane bombed Kootenay 8-4!!! At one point it was 7-2 Spokane in the 2nd. I was stunned!!! The Officiating was horrible. I don't know when I have ever seen such a horribly called game. There was very little 5 on 5 action. Spokane was usually in the penalty box, which SUCKED!!!!! But, Chiefs never gave up, and dominated Kootenay in every aspect. About 45 of us on the bus, and about 50 more drove up for the game. I am only now, getting my voice back just today. Spokane is 1-0, like your Cougars River. Next up for my Chiefs is Vancouver tomorrow night. Lets Go Chiefs!!!!!!!!

Greg Scott and Bretton Stamler each netted a goal and an assist for the T-Birds (1-1-0-0) while Jan Eberle – with his first WHL tally - also counted. Derek Yeomans stopped 23 shots for the victory.
Brett Robertson - a goal and an assist – and Jared Walker scored for the Cougars (1-1-0-0) while Real Cyr stopped 28 shots in the defeat.

Well, when you consider the flu bug has just hit my Chiefs, hard, and the fact that star player Michael Grabner is still away with the big boys, and that the Chiefs had a sloppy start, fell behind 2-0 early and before they knew what hit them, a 4-2 loss to the #1 ranked Vancouver Giants, wasn't all that bad. At least the officiating sounded MUCH better than it was in Kootenay!!! Next up, and next victim, will be Tri-City on Saturday night in Tri-City. LETS GO CHIEFS!!!!!

The Spokane Chiefs on Wednesday acquired 20-year-old Corey Courchene from the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for a third round selection in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft. Courchene is in his fourth season in the WHL and recorded career highs in goals (11), assists (13), points (24) and penalty minutes (150) last season in 56 games. From Fort Alexander, Manitoba, Courchene has played 175 career games, including one this year. Courchene was originally a fourth round selection in the 2001 WHL Bantam Draft.
“Corey Courchene will be a good addition for our team,” Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz said. “He has size, grit and good skill. Cory is a versatile player who can play forward and defense.”
Courchene joins forward Derek Ryan and defenseman Evan Haw as the three 20-year-olds on the Chiefs, the maximum number allowed on WHL rosters.

It is rivalry night down in Tri-City, as my Chiefs are set to invade Toyota Center, and I expect to come out with a win. I think the Chiefs are gonna be hungry after the loss to Vancouver on Tuesday night, in which several Chiefs were hit by the flu bug. I haven't had a chance to read anything in the morning paper here just yet, about the health of the Chiefs. But, I have my fingers crossed for a big, decisive win down there. 7 days from the home opener in Spokane next Saturday Night against these same Tri-City Yams! GO CHIEFS!!!!!

Damn! Tough 4-3 overtime loss to Tri-City last night. I listened to part of the game, and as is typical when these two teams get togther, the Officials seem to be the story! The Ref. put Tri on the power play early, and often, and gave them a very early 5 on 3 of which they scored. Spokane just wasn't able to recover. So, now we get to go to divison leading Everett next week, before coming home Saturday for my home opener against Tri-City here. Chiefs need a "W" now, and have lost 2 straight. Its early, but the team I saw manhandle Kootenay a week ago, is the team I want to see on the ice!!!! GO CHIEFS!!!!!

Its very early in the season, but my Chiefs are 1-1-1, and right now just above dead last Seattle. Tri-City used that overtime win against Spokane Saturday night as a springboard, as they went on to bomb the Chilliwack Bruins 7-3 last night. Chiefs don't see action now until Friday night, when they take on the always tough Everett Hawks, a team which has pretty much owned Spokane over the past few seasons. Chiefs need a "W" before our home opener this Saturday Night against the Tri-City Yams. Lets Go Chiefs!!!!!!

It was hard to beleive that this, was the same team which had completely shut down EVerett 2-1 in a shootout, the night before. It just didn't look like the same team at all. A bad omen was that our starting goalie was at the wrong end of the ice to start, and had to be told so.

4-0 Tri after just the first period.....But overall a very poor performance in my opinion. Chiefs get a few days off before Portland comes to town on Tuesday. Obviously hoping for a better result!

Vancouver is certainly looking every bit so far, as the # 1 ranked team in the CHL/WHL. Chiefs played them tough last week. I wonder how the outcome would have been had the Chiefs been 100% healthy.....good luck with your Cougs. Meanwhile after that disastrous home opener loss to Tri-City, my Chiefs get a chance to hopefully redeem themselves when Portland comes to town on Tuesday night, and then in a huge rematch Everett invades the arena here on Friday night. All is not happy this morning in Chiefstown, because of that horrible game Saturday night against the Am's....Chiefs need two wins at home!!!

Its redemtpion night in Spokane. After the home opening disaster loss to Tri-City Saturday night, Chiefs get a chance to get on the winning side again tonight as Portland comes to town. Then Everett comes to the arena on Friday night which should be really interesting. given that Chiefs beat Everett last FRiday night in Everett in a shootout. After that Chiefs go on the road to Kelowna Saturday night, and then to Seattle for a Sunday evening game. Expecting a big W tonight from the arena. Boys need to get back on the winning track here. Chiefs fans have been grumbling since the Saturday loss. Lets Go Chiefs!

A nice 6-4 win, their first win on home ice this season for the Chiefs last night as they come away with the win over the Portland Winterhawks. Spokane now solidly in 3rd, just 3 points back of Tri-City for 2nd place. HUGE game against Everett here Friday night. A rematch of the shootout victory Spokane got in Everett last FRiday night. Lets Go Chiefs!!!!
