Three Edmonton fans (oh, those wacky Canadians) are conducting a campaign to take control of Lord Stanley's Cup away from the NHL. You can go to www.freestanley.com to take a poll to elect a pair of trustees for the trophy under the terms laid out by Lord Stanley his own self, before the creation of the NHL. Why are the three doing this? As a form of protest against the NHL lockout.

Thanks for the link, Adam. My vote for trustee went to Jean Beliveau, and it appears most fans agree with me; he is way ahead of Don Cherry.

As far as teams go, the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League should be contenders for this year's Stanley Cup! They are the talk of the country this week, with an awesome 31-game undefeated streak, the best such record in junior hockey since 1978. Ironically, they didn't even need a goal to break the record, playing to a 0-0 tie on Friday. For comparison, the longest undefeated streak in NHL history, if my source is correct, belongs to the Philadelphia Flyers...35 games in the 1979-80 season.

I also voted for Beliveau. And the 31-game undefeated streak is astounding--sort of like when the Lakers had their 33-game streak years back. A moment to treasure.
