Commissioner Gary Bettman, who was scheduled to appear before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce (they're the ones looking into "performance enhacement substances" in sports) this Thursday, has asked for a deferment because the NHL and NHLPA are scheduled to resume labor talks the same day. From chief legal officer, Bill Daly: "Unfortunately, because of the pre-existing conflict we had with having committed to meeting on Thursday and Friday with the union, we will be unable to be in Washington on Thursday. We do, however, look forward to participating in this important initiative and hope that an alternative date can be scheduled in the near future."
Yeah, I'm sure Bettman is really looking forward to being grilled by some congressman about performance-enhacing substances in hockey! Does alcohol count as a performance-enhancing substance? wink
