The medical school is at UABirmingham, though it does belong to UATuscaloosa. You are probably right about the Ph.D total in Huntsville. Not only do you have NASA, but you also have several homegrown software giants that employ loads of people.
Our "country" (that's tongue in cheek people) house is in the Huntsville TV market, so we get updates on the team quite often. Hockey is a popular sport up there.

Hey -- them's fighting words! But given the state of UW's anemic power play offense -- kinda close to the truth. At least we have the best goalie in the NCAAs.
DUHockeyFan -- the Denver (#1 in the uscho poll) v. CC (#1 in usa today) series will be great! The MacNaughton Cup is for the asking -- but I'll keep hope alive for Wisconsin -- a little help (well a ton of help) plus sweeps by us against the Susies and UM-D ...
Prediction: A Western Conference team will win the NCAA tourney once again.

Colgate vs. Minnesota
Harvard vs. Michigan
Grand Rapids:
Sacred Heart vs. Denver
Ohio State vs. UML
Amherst:
North Dakota vs. Boston College
UNH vs. Cornell
Worcester:
Bemidji State vs. Colorado College

Bad cheese is spreading east at a phenomenal rate.
A comparison of Cornell Big Red and WI Badgers (common opponents of Yale and MSU):
Cornell 2-1-1 (sweep of Yale and 0-1-1 at MSU)
Wisconsin 0-1-1 (0-0-1 at home with Yale and 0-1-0 at home with MSU; both in holiday tournaments in Madison)
Go Badgers: Yale at 4-21-2 is a tough team, especially on home ice; a tie is a great accomplishment.
This post is for informational purposes only, and the amusement of Big Red fans everywhere whenever we hear how EZ the ECACHL is.

UW really sucked it up yesterday -- I'm concerned that they're now 1-4-1 for the last six games -- they should be finishing the season much stronger.
At any rate we had a great time watching the game -- we went down to a sports bar downtown; not our favorite place but one where the staff can always find the game on the satellite or will search tenaciously until they get it. We walk in and see that the place is populated by North Dakotans -- the und alumni assn. was holding an event and watching the game. Being good solid middle Americans, they invited us into the fold and gave us a good ribbing throughout. Good times! Rematch this afternoon!

The conference tourneys are this weekend -- will help determine places and seeds in the NCAA.
But the
PWR estimation of the NCAA is screwy -- there's some discussion that it would be better for Wisconsin to lose its home series vs. Alaska-Anchorage. A few more wins would make AK a "Team under Consideration" and therefore more favorable in the computer's eyes. And then Wisconsin's sweep at Anchorage earlier in the year would count more. Or something like that. I'm confused.
Just win the games, win the Frozen Five up in the Twin Cities -- and then get in the NCAA!
The UW games this weekend are back in the old Dane County Coliseum (now called some corporate name) -- where their best seasons were played. SI called it years ago the "Montreal Forum of College Hockey." The Kohl Center is hosting state hoops tourney. Best thing for some Badger fans -- Coliseum sells beer!

Of course Wisconsin needs to lose to AA to look better in the pairwise rankings. The Badgers did an excellent job of trying to make their pairwise rankings better with six losses since January.
Since January 1, 2005
Cornell 15-1-1
Wisconsin 9-6-3

Well as of Thursday, Wisconsin and Cornell were predicted to play a first round match in the Amherst regional. But after Friday's games,
both would now be playing in Minneapolis. Wisconsin would play Minnesota (yes even though they are conference foes!) and Cornell would get Ohio State.
And trust me, I'd cash in some airline miles to see the two battle for a trip to the Frozen Four.

I guess I'm happy but, again, the PWR is screwy in an Alice-in-Wonderland, up-is-down, Republicans-are-fiscally-responsible, invade-Iraq-because-of-WMDs perverse logic.
UW's loss to UAA win puts the Seapups in the top 30 -- therefore UW's 5 wins against them this year count more. So Badgers lose, Badgers go up (from 13 to 9 I think).
Feed your head -- I want some of those shrooms.

With Wisconsin's record over the last month I'd be surprised -- very happy, but surprised -- if they received an NCAA berth. I really don't think they deserve it. But since the Western Conference kinda gets the slack that the ACC and Big East get in the NCAA hoops, who knows.

Yeehaw!! From today's uscho.com:
"The Badgers couldn't play their way into the tournament, but did get in when three things happened. We look to Atlantic Hockey and the ECACHL for that. With Colgate winning, Brown dropped out of being a TUC, hurting Colgate and Dartmouth, taking away four TUC wins for Colgate and two for Dartmouth. Then with Mercyhurst and Quinnipiac winning its semifinal games, this guaranteed that the Badgers would be helped with Mercyhurst winning the championship or hurting Dartmouth with Quinnipiac winning the championship. The Badgers, because of this combination, are now in the tournament."
I won't believe it until I see it on tomorrow's selection show.
Glad to see CC beat the Goofs last night -- and looked like a thriller with DU ousting und in OT.
