That guy looks familiar...doesn't he play for the Vatican Vipers? Or maybe the Saint Peter's Squares? I'm sure he has some well-known teammates too, considering all the NHL players in Europe these days. His Holiness seems to be sitting in a...penalty box? I suspect the infraction was "two minutes for dress code violation."

A quick Google search took me to a story about the Pope being presented with a hockey stick while in St. Louis, MO back in 1999, but there was no accompanying photo, so I don't know if that's what this is all about. Perhaps twin58 can enlighten us.

But apparently he does like Christian Backman of the Blues. I think the Pope is a baseball fan too, because the article I read last night says that he met with Mark McGwire and Stan Musial when he was in St Louis in '99. Not surprising, since they were both Cardinals (I know I'm using C-dog's word again, but in a different context so it counts ) However, I guess the Pope's blessing didn't help them win the World Series this year, nor get the Angels past the Red Sox!

First of all, I'm shocked to see the words "twin58" and "enlighten" used in the same sentence.

Now that I'm over that shock, I can't provide any more info about the pic. I assumed it was Photoshopped, like all those other wacky pix on the 'Net. The right wrist looks sort of weird.

I got it from the washdchockey Yahoo! group, though I am not a member. It looks like a lefthanded stick in the picture, and if so, he's holding it backwards. So much for infallibility.
