I was reading this true story on my lunch break in a December 23, 2003 edition of The Hockey News in the CHL (Central Hockey League) Notebook section and felt compelled to share:
"Corpus Christi Rayz blueliner Mike Tilson didn't slip on a banana peel after a 2-1 overtime loss to the Amarillo Gorillas, but he did slip up. Tilson was fined an undisclosed amount by the Central League for an unusual violation - "shooting" a banana into the crowd with his stick. Amarillo fans have a tradition of pelting the ice with real and fake bananas following a home goal. According to CHL supervisor of officials Wayne Bonney, Tilson committed the fruit-related assault after the Gorillas' winner, which resulted in the fine. No word on whether Tilson will a-peel."
