That nutty Jose Canseco is at it again. From CNNSI.com:
QUOTE
Former baseball player Jose Canseco was arrested Friday at his home in Davie, Fla., for violating probation, Lt. Bill Bamford of the Davie Police Department told CNN.
According to Bamford, Canseco was arrested for testing positive for steroids in violation of the terms of his probation.
Canseco was under house arrest for previously violating probation on assault charges that stemmed from a 2001 brawl at a Miami Beach nightclub.
Wonder if he'll blame this on racism too?

Probably, anything he can to deflect attention from himself. Afterall he is quickly becoming the Al Sharpton of the sports world.

I guess this means an end to Canseco's "spend an hour with me for $625" business that he implemented last month (while he was still under house arrest nonetheless eek! )....based upon a recent story in the Miami Herald Jose has had several longtime fans fork over the money just to "hang around and chat" with him for hours at a time....according to the column by Greg Cody (which was detailed on ESPN radio) there was even one 22 yr old guy from PA (along with his girlfriend) who gave Canseco $2500 (which he had saved up himself) to simply spend four hours at Canseco's home and swim in his pool in South Florida last week -- and the guy told the reporter after leaving that he felt he got his money's worth....it looks like some spoiled athletes have to learn a few of life's lessons the hard way after they leave the game and their fame (and fortune) begins to disappear.

On the other hand, if he goes to jail he can experience the thrill and excitement of prison sex, and then use his newfound experience to find a male partner on the outside! wink

When he last violated parole--today's announcement of steroid use being Canseco's second violation--the judge informed him he could be facing up to 15 years of prison time for any additional violation. It saddens me when people seem to squander whatever gifts they've been given & throw away every chance they get.

Okay, so someone explain to me why he is taking steriods in the first place. It's not like he is still playing ball and needs to bulk up to hit the ball further. As far as I know, I don't think steroids are addictive the same way as heroin or crack so that can't be it. So what gives?

It may not necessarily be a physiological/chemical addiction. However it is a psychological addiction. Meaning.. he got used to the bulk he developed with steroids and is now unwilling to lose that. whether he's playong or not.
If you think about it, having a legitimate reason for the bulk never has been an issue for steroid users. the steroid abusers you see at the various gyms and the gay bars or circuit parties (and there are many who do roids) none of them are professional athletes or pro body builders. They do roids just to look big for the sake of being big.
Since steroids have psychological effects as well, is it possible that he's also addicted to the aggressive/confident feeling he has when he's on them?

well.. medically speaking, no. It's sort of tricky. but you really have to say a couple of things here.
The aggression and feelings of confidence you mention is not for all who take steroids. so that may or may not apply to Canseco.
also, even if that were the case, these effects would not automatically be classified as "addictive". an addiction per se, denotes certain criteria of physiological dependence.
