...that the last lockout of the NHL ended. It was 1/11/95 when the pro game came back to us, if only for a brief decade. As for this year's edition of the lockout: no end in sight, no talks taking place, and a general sense that this season is done. What I find particulary disturbing is that spokesmen on both sides say that if this season is cancelled, there won't even be talks again until September, putting next season at risk, as well.

I have little or no anticipation unfortunately of anything changing position wise for a long time, and I am so saddened by this, you have no idea. Winter to me, means hockey, and a winter without NHL hockey is not a fun winter. I am hopeful my Spokane Chiefs can take it up to another level here within the next 2 months, and both make the playoffs, and do some damage in the playoffs.

I echo your sentiments, it's not winter without hockey. I remember coming home after school in the fall and winter, all the guys in the neighborhood would come down and we'd have our daily street hockey games, even when it got to be terribly cold in December and January, I think the only days we didn't play was when there was snow on the ground, or if it was pouring rain and the leaves were still falling. All those nights of laying in front of the fireplace or on the couch watching the Flyers games with my dad (I grew up in South Jersey). And eventhough it's sunny and warm out this winter, it's still not winter without hockey... hopefully something will get done soon. After reading the last proposal put forth by the owners, what they are asking for makes total sense...so hopefully the players will sit down and see that at this point they are only going to lose more by not coming to terms, and that in the end not only do the players lose out, so do the fans.
