\"Why it's OK to like the Rangers\"? Bah! It's
never OK to like the Rangers!

Merely by changing the names of the players, one could build a similar article about ANY team...except maybe the Thrashers
By the way, he left out one good reason to support the Rangers: the change to drool over Tim Robbins--he is to the Rangers what Jack Nicholson is to the Lakers.

With all due respect to the denizens of the Five Boroughs of Southeastern New York State, last year was our year to support New York teams because of 9-11. We're over that. New York-centric ESPN should get over it too and quit cramming New York sports down our throats. (I know I know, their bodies may be in Bristol, but their hearts clearly have always been in midtown Manhattan.)
If we continue supporting New York teams simply because of 9-11, that would mean: the terrorists have won. I'm pulling for Chris Pronger and the St Louis Blues to win (their first) Stanley Cup. Take that, Osama, up yours.

Charlie in the Trees,
I've always wanted to ask you, "is your board moniker actually a reference to small, Vietnamese snipers hiding up in trees?"
I saw Forest Gump on HBO the other day (nothing else on), and there's a scene that got me wondering about your name.

"Dumb" is being kind, Joe SSOP (Somewhere South of Philly).
I started to respond to the author by pointing out just how many "dumb" statements his article contains, but the effort proved to be Herculean (like, really, really long). Virtually every flowery paragraph left me scratching my head in disbelief. The way he twists the facts to fit his "America's Team" (blech) theory is truly astounding. His talents would surely be better served spinning for politicos.
Let me just say this: Terry Frei, you're an idiot. And although you certainly have a vivid imagination, no, I won’t be "pre-ordering" your book.
And besides, we all know that the Stanley Cup belongs in Canada again. Haven't we suffered enough??!

You've found me out.
That is the reference ... but two steps removed.
Cartman used the line in a very early episode of "South Park." In my early days of internet surfing, I borrowed/stole the line as the moniker I would use to post to internet messagebaords. This is now the only internet messageboard I post to, as it now the only internet messageboard worth posting to, or even reading.
Now if only I could crack the mystery of the derivation of your name. I'm pretty sure it's got nothing to do with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Maybe it's a reference to some small town near La Grange, Georgia?

Here's something else, too: Even though he is very easy to drool over, isn't it about time for Messier to hang up the blades? It's not really a thing to do with his soon to be 42 years (I'd be cutting my own throat talking about player's ages since I'm a Wings fan <hehe> . It has to do with his lackluster performace the last 2-3 seasons. I mean, look at last season! He scored only seven goals, racked up just 23 points, and on the Rangers' plus/minus, he was -1.
The Rangers have also been a team to carry one of the highest payrolls in the League -- without much of a return on investment -- I might add. They did, though, make what I felt was a good move with Messier. His salary has been cut from 6 million to 3-3.5 million, and many think that the 2002-03 season will be his last.
