Joe in Philly
Oakland's Bobby Crosby and Pittsburgh's Jason Bay.

Surprising to see how far back Khalil Greene was in second to Bay; every Padre game I saw he was very impressive defensively. Hadn't realized that no Pirate had ever been so honored before.

I'm with Adam on this one. I am really surprised that not only did Khalil Greene not win the NL Rookie of the Year, but didn't even seem close to getting it. The Athletics' Bobby Crosby as AL Rookie of the Year was expected and well-deserved. Even though he only got third place, it was nice to see the Orioles' Daniel Cabrera get noticed.

Bummer that Twins catcher Joe Mauer was hurt much of the year. I have no doubt had he played a full season, he'd have probably won the AL award. But congrats to the winners, both weel deserved from all I've read.

Jason Bay became the first Canadian and the first Pirate rookie-of-the-year.

I don't know anything about his defense, but his offensive numbers were impressive: 26 HR and 82 RBI in only 411 AB.

His sister Lauren pitched impressively for the Canadian women's softball team in the summer Olympics in Athens.
