McClendon out as Pirates' manager

The Pirates are expected to announce this afternoon that Manager Lloyd McClendon has been fired, a source close to the team said.

McClendon, the team's manager since October 2000, was not expected at PNC Park today. Pete Mackanin, the Pirates bench coach, will manage the team for the rest of the season, the source said.

McClendon has never had a winning season in his five years at the helm. The Pirates are currently tied with the Colorado Rockies for the worst record in the National League.

This is truly the most shocking news I've heard this season...shocking because who knew the Pirates even had a manager.

Ah September, a wisp of coolness nips the air, the kids are back in school, the gridiron heats up, and the grim reaper make the rounds around MLB. Who could be next next lucky victim? Dear hatchetman please make a stop at CBP, someone is waiting for you there. tongue.gif
