Received an e-mail from my penpal/stalker, ESPN anchor John Buccigross. In it he writes that ESPN is "trying to put together a treat for NHL fans experiencing painful withdrawal symptoms." Airing minor league games, college hockey, or games from Europe?? Nah. Instead, they are looking into the possibility of a charity game--featuring locked-out NHLers, "oldtimers, and hockey-lovin' celebrities and ESPN performers." If it comes together, look for it to occur around the end of this year.

I'd ratehr have college hockey or minor league games, but if someone slams Barry Melrose into the boards, it might be worth it. wink

I agree Adam. I think ESPN needs to get their *hit in gear and go after some minor league/college games. I am not at all interested in anything other than this.

I will admit that the thought of a geriatric Gordie Howe or Dave Williams putting Chris Potter through the glass brings a smile to my face.

In the latest missive from John Buccigross, he writes that "despite the best efforts of the hockey-lovin' ESPN staffers and some temporarily-unemployed NHL friends" they were unable to coordinate dates for an ESPN-sponsered charity game. He added that many of the players simply couldn't fit another charity intop their already busy schedules of various charity work.

ESPN waited too long to try and put it together. I'm surprised they bothered to try in the first place.

Agree they took too long & go back to my original post--they could have been airing AHL games or college hockey instead of trying to package an exhibition/charity game. Pity--and not just because I wanted to see someone slam Melrose into the boards! wink
