The Philadelphia Flyers announced that members of the local media will be coaching the Philadelphia Flyers and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, when the two teams meet at the Wachovia Spectrum on Friday, October 3 at 7:00 p.m., according to Flyers General Manager Bob Clarke.
\"This is a great idea that (Ken) Hitchcock came up with,\" said Clarke. \"It’s good for the press to see from the inside what is going on and to be a little bit closer to the action for a game. I think they will learn something from this. They will learn what it is like to be right there at ice level. They will be able to see first hand the speed of the game and how difficult it is to play and to coach at this level.\"
The Flyers will be coached by ESPN and 610-WIP radio announcer Al Morganti, 610-WIP radio announcer and local sportswriter Anthony Gargano and NHL Cool Shots host Dan Moriarty, while the Phantoms will be coached by Philadelphia Daily News beat reporter Ed Moran, Bucks County Courier Times beat reporter Wayne Fish and former Flyer and current 610-WIP radio announcer Keith Jones. Morganti will act as head coach of the Flyers, while Moran will be at the helm of the Phantoms.
