The Minnesota Supreme Court today unanimously upheld a lower court's ruling that the Minnesota Twins must play a full season at the Metrodome this season. Given that pitchers and catchers report in a month, I would think that this will once and for all drive a stake through the heart of Bud Lite's contraction plan - at least this year. Next year, who knows what he'll be promoting as his new plan to "save the Game."

Thank goodness someone is actually looking out for the best interest of baseball! The Twins need to be pried from Pohlad's wretched grip and sold to a real owner, not one playing footsy with Scrooge McSelig.
God, I hate Selig. When will baseball get a real commissioner, instead of a permanent "acting" one.

I'm estatic for Minnesota fans - I know how it felt to lose the Browns for a while . Besides MINN. fans are big athletic supporters! - They didn't deserve the possible loss of their team. We got to stick up for them -or it could be YOUR team next.

My first ever baseball game was seeing the Twins play the Angels in the Metrodome during that magical 1991 season. Even thinking of contracting the team is something I can't even fathom.
Let's get Cal to replace Selig. That'll solve a lot of probs.

I don't know much bout the intergral arguments of this contraction business, ButIt seems to me that getting rid of a entire baseball team, not to mention TWO is just plain crazy!!!!
When there are millions out there who love the game, I can't see the justification for getting rid of a team. Teams have moved cities in the past, and that's sad enough, but to get rid of them....
Something stinks in MLB land... rolleyes:
Good Luck Twins... and to the people of Minn.

I read a recent column (can't remember where) that said that MLB actually needs to expand by two teams. Re-do the divisions and you get a nice neat playoff system and you expand the fan base. And they should cap the New York payroll.

Cal, Cal... Cal Ripken? Cats and dogs!
Are there any teams whose fans are happy with Selig and the way things are going? I'd hope that a fans union could influence MLB's operation, but doubt something like that could ever get organized. Congress is the only answer. Repeal the anti-trust immunity. Now THAT's something that fans should be able to influence.

All teams should have a cap. Look at how much moolah the Rangers are throwing around. And the Orioles and Dodgers as well. But there also needs to be a salary minimum. That would keep owners like C. Montgomery Pohlad in line and make revenue sharing more palatable. At least Steinbrenner would know the money he was forking over teams like the Royals, Twins and A's was going towards keeping the team competitive and not just to line to pockets of the owners.
All MLB teams will draw crowd (with the exception of the Expos perhaps) provided the fans think they are going to see a quality, competitive team. When the Twins were contenders (late 80's-early 90's), they outdrew the Yankees. So the arguement that Minnesota is not a viable market is a load of crap.

Isn't MLB back to breaking its total attendance record every year? Why can't BOTH leagues have a team in Balt/DC *and* Philadelphia?
Some columnist pointed out recently that it's a payroll cap that would be implemented, not a salary cap.
The Minn Supreme Court will hear MLB's appeal on the Twins ruling Feb 11 -- 3 days before spring training.

Philadelphia isn't supporting the one team it has. With baseball in such a mess, two teams here won't fly.

Ohhhh, this is twisted, but.....
Has anyone ever gone to the Simpsons wesite?
Selig reminds me of a cross between Mayor Quimby and Mr. Burns.
And he has just as much power.
And just as much EVIL intent.
And just as much self-serving purpose.
