Received an e-mail at work from my LA Kings, sent to all season ticket holders, asking whether we would be interested in purchasing a ticket package for "exciting Kings games beginning in February." Notice they don't list a year...

Could be they have some inside info...or could be they want to try and get a running start, just in case.
If they have some inside info, I hope they share it with Barry Melrose.

I'd rather they share whatever inside info they have with me--and I'll post it here, way before Melrose hears of it. wink

Well, according to my buddy in Kings' PR, they don't have any inside information, the e-mail was just meant to check to see whether the team has lost traction among its most devoted fanbase. They have accepted as fact that the casual fan--the sort who may attend up to ten games a season--are lost unless the team--and the league--do a major push for them & the organization fears they may lose approximately 20% of their season-ticket holders, as well. Funniest aspect of all this is that since they posted the letters, they've heard from ESPN producers & reporters--people who should be more plugged into what's happening behind-closed-doors--asking if the Kings' PR department knows something.

Tim Leiwicke, president of the LA Kings, says there will be a full 82-game season starting this coming fall, "and if that means replacement players, so be it."
Gee, that's the way to build bridges...

If the NHL has replacement players, they won't have me watching. That will open up such an ugly can of worms. It'll be even worse if some of the regular players cross the picket lines. The effects will last long after the labor dispute ends.

I'll be watching. I respect the heart and love of the game in the minor leagues more than the skill and talent of the majors anyway. Plus, it'll be a pal's one (slim) chance at ever playing in the NHL if it happens.

If thats the case, I would probably check out at least one game assuming its televised.
