Full Version: Panthers turn to Mike Keenan
Outsports Discussion Board > Outsports > Hockey
Joe in Philly
According to a number of reports, Florida fired coach Duane Sutter and GM Bill Torrey. Mike Keenan takes over behind the bench, with assistant GM Chuck Fletcher now interim general manager.

Keenan heads for South Beach

This is his seventh team--at this rate he'll get to coach everyone eventually.

Sounds like a good match to me. Keenan may be perceived by many as a big d*ckhead, but he seems to have a knack for turning losing teams (see: Panthers, Florida) into respectibility (like in Philly, St-Louis) or outright winners (Stanley Cup with the Rangers).

Apparently, Pavel Bure's inability to adapt to Sutter's system had a lot to do with this move. More pressure ahead, Pavel?

(Anally-retentively edited for slight typo.

ARgh! I can't stand this man. Actually, I never refer to him by name, but rather as "The Great Satan of Hockey."

As long as he's in FL so that he can't come to Washington.....

Keenan is a short term solution. he has smarts and gets teams motivated but ends up alienating people, pissing them off, and looking elsewhere. When he was with Rangers the year they won he was negotiating leaving during the playoffs.

Keenan may be fiery and bombastic, but I expect the Panthers to make their move with him behind the bench!! For sure..
