This term is new to me -- little help here please?

From a review of last night's Brewers @ Expos game: "After both teams scored in the 12th, Mike Mordecai led off the Montreal 15th with a double against Jose Cabrera (1-3). Brad Wilkerson sacrificed and pinch hitter Michael Barrett was walked intentionally. Barrett took second on defensive indifference before Peter Bergeron struck out for the second out."
Munson Man
With the winning run on third and a meaningless run on first, the runner on first steals second hoping to draw a throw from the catcher that will either a) enable the runner at third to score the winning run as the catcher throws to second and the throw comes right back to him, or cool.gif be dropped or go into centerfield while the winning run scores on the error. The catcher safeguards against this by simply NOT throwing to second. Thus the runner on first advances, but is not credited with a stolen base because there was no attempt to prevent the steal - thus the term "defensive indifference."
