I was amazed to learn that Homer Bush was dumped by the Blue Jays on May 10th. Granted the guy is hitting .231 this year and is always getting injured. But still, he's only 29, he's a career .289 hitter with speed and his defense at second is outstanding. I've got to think he can help somebody. Anybody heard anything about who might pick him up?

Why? Let me count the ways.
1. 29 IS OLD for a baseball players. The performance curve peaks at about age 27 or 28 and starts to drop off. Homer Bush was already past the point of being as good he'll get.
2. Sure, his lifetime batting average was .289 (I was shocked it was that high) ... but all's that Bush does is hit singles. No power. No extra base hits. No walks. His batting average did triple duty: it was, just about, also his on-base percentage and his slugging percentage. A lifetime BA of .298 is not bad ... but not when it's paired with a .328 lifetime OBP and a .366 lifetime slugging percentage.
3. Those numbers aren't HORRIBLE for a defensive wizard, but he was nothing special on defense. Not terrible. Just not good enough for someone as weak as he is offensively.
But the most important reason ...
4. Injuries. The guy could not stay healthy. He was an injury magnet: he spent time on teh DL for each and every appendage. The B-Jays never got a full season from him. Older players tend to be more injury prone ... he wasn't going to get healthier suddenly.
It's obviously a lost season for the Blue Jays at this point. Get rid of the guy and bring up the second baseman of the future du jour ... Orlando Hudson.
