Tawny Kitaen, the wife of Indians pitcher Chuck Finley, was arrested for spousal abuse and battery after attacking her husband! She was arrested Monday night and released Wednesday. Finley missed his scheduled start Wednesday as a result.

Now before anyone starts attacking me for laughing at the absurdity of this, I do recognize there are some men out there who are physically abused by imposing women. But a professional athlete? I wonder if they caught the incident for an episode of "Cops"?

is that Chuck FInley?

Definitely, it's Chuck Finely!

Steve Finely is Arizona D'backs' outfielder.

Whew! I'm the only one allowed to bitch slap Steve Finley!

As far as the "God! How can a professional athlete get beat up by a girl..." line goes.

It's not a source of humor. It's a source of admiration that Chuck had the self control to not kick Tawni's ass. I'm sure he can take her in an all out fight. But he was enough of a gentleman to not do so.

Think abbout it. You're a 6'2" athlete and some much smaller woman (your wife) is kicking, scratching you. If you retaliate, YOU get arrested by the cops for spousal abuse. If you don't, you get ridiculed by others.

I say I'm all for Finley and whatever support he needs, I'm there for him. (ok. So I have a teensy weensy bit of ulterior motive)
mets57
I agree ung. That makes him a perfect gentleman, right?

Ulterior motive? Hmmmm, didn't someone tell us Chuck's hung?

I do envision some nasty bench-jockeying coming out of this...

Having a wife named Tawny is funny enough (outside California).

Finley's stats page says he's 6'6", 225.

I've heard of this on Oprah. It's not unheard of for wives to abuse their husband. Even if the husband is physically stronger, if you love your wife, if you're not a fighter, if you're more afraid than angry, you may not fight back any more than an abused wife would fight back an abusive husband. And it's tough on the man because it's seen as embarrassing to be abused by a woman.

They say this sometimes happens in gay relationships too. One guy may abuse the other who could--but doesn't--fight back. And the victim feels stigmatized, like he's the abused "wife."

To add insult to injury, Tawny is also a former Miss USA. That's right, Chuckles got beaten up by a beauty queen!!

All joking aside, I do agree that Findlay actually deserves kudos for having self-control. Obviously, if he had lost it he would've hurt her a lot more than she ultimately hurt him. Maybe Roger Clemens can give her the name of a good anger management counselor.

Maybe Chuck should leave the bitch and find someone who would understand him and love him without resorting to physical violence and give him all the sex he could ever want. someone like............ oh I don't know...... me?
Munson Man
Yikes!! I guess Tawny cleans up real purdy, but her mugshot from the incident makes me really glad I'm gay!!

But can she kick Tonya Harding's ass?

Aye carumba!!! What the hell is Chuckie doing with her. She a mess!!!

she really does look like a cat. Something about the way her mouth area and eyes/nose come together gives her a very feline look. My bet is that her looks (both good and bad) come from cosmetic surgery (both good and bad) and lots of it.
She reminds me of that New York socialite (I believe her name was Jocelyn Waldenstein or something like that) who became known as the "jaguar woman" and was the poster child for what happens with too much cosmetic surgery.

Chuckie baby! .... Come home!!!! I'm waiting for you baby!

anyway, gotta get to the ball park to see a game.

Just to let everyone know, in California when the police are called to a domestic dispute, they HAVE to take one of the parties into custody. If there is any resistance then the police will arrest that party. If the police do not see the "abuse" happening, then they will look to see if either one of the parties is injured, since the officer stated that he saw scratches and scrapes on Finley then the officer would take her into custody. I know of one case where a call was made to the police by the guy (his girlfriend was on drugs and beating on him) and before the police made it to the house, she left and the police arrested the guy.
So I am not surprised by this situation and there may be a lot more to this--stayed tuned.

Her e-hubby is David Coverdale from Whitesnake. I believe they had a similar problem in the early 80s.

from the ESPN.com article:

[quote] She was arrested Monday night after arguing with Finley as they drove home from dinner, said Tori Richards, a spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney's office. Richards said Finley was driving when Kitaen began kicking him with her high-heeled shoes.

"She kicked him in the thigh, in the leg, in the arm, she grabbed his ear and twisted it," Richards said. "At one point, her high-heel shoe was on top of his foot pressing the accelerator to the ground."

So they both might have been killed in a crash. I'm sorry, but this is one case where I'd not only condone hitting a woman, but I'd almost encourage it.

But as for the fact that he couldn't pitch, I'm reminded of Homer Simpson on the phone to the power plant after getting whacked on the head by an Itchy-and-Scratchy-influenced Maggie..."You heard me, I won't be in for the rest of the week....I told you, my baby beat me up!....oh, it is not the worst excuse I ever thought up."

Didn't this Tawny kitten date Mark Grace? She's a groupie fer sure.

From what I heard on our local sports station, Tawny was on the receiving end of a botched plastic surgery. She's even scarier to look at "live" in person. Pity. Remember when she was the Rocker chick in the Whitesnake videos?

So she's gone from waxing car hoods to cleaning clocks, I see.

Yep - he's stuck in the middle - and the attitudes of court advocates & judges often favor the POOR little woman over the BIG BAD MAN.

Heard on the news this morning (the joy of LA news--it's all gossip, gossip, gossip) that Chuck Finley has filed for divorce from Tawny Kitaen. He filed two days following the incident discussed in this thread.

I just heard on SportsCenter that the Chicago White Sox fired their PA announcer for playing a Whitesnake song during Indians batting practice yesterday. Tawny Kitaen was married to the lead singer of this '80's hairband. People just don't have a sense of humor anymore!
ung
I'm not so sure about that last comment. I believe in a sense of humour as much as the next guy.... But some topics such as when your wife is arrested for spousal battery and then sued for divorce, I see as..... like if a family member were to die. It should not become the topic of humour by others. If Finley can laugh about it, that's cool. But for an opposing team to make fun of a deeply personal and embarassing episode.... that's too much.

From personal experience a divorce can be DEVASTATING! I think it can be worse than the death of a spouse- because you have to live through the fact of the betrayal & then see them with someone else. IT SUCKS!
