A 'father figure': Ex-NHLer blames family for troubles
OTTAWA - In the first statement since he was sentenced to seven and a half years in a U.S. prison for plotting to kill his agent, NHL player Mike Danton has detailed a troubling childhood with his biological family and revealed suicidal tendencies he felt immediately after his arrest.
In a 36-page, handwritten statement to the Ottawa Citizen this week, Danton documented childhood scenes that drove him to a surrogate family headed by agent David Frost and his wife, Bridget, the daughter of the late, legendary NHL referee John McCauley.
He hates his biological family so much that he legally changed his surname four years ago from Jefferson to Danton, the last name of a boy he met at a hockey school.
His statement is essentially a public document explaining why he has disowned his biological family.
\"Not once was I ever read a book at night and I can't remember ever receiving a hug or kiss.\"

36 pages! Whoo-eey! Interesting how this article doesn't mention the tapes with the talk of the sex and the orgies and the hot straight sex...
Other tidbits:
"When things were rough at home, I'd head over to his house to stay. I loved staying over because they had toilet paper and food -- two items that I didn't have.
"As I grew older, the Keefe house became my outlet for showers, food and #2 bathroom visits."
It does seem like this is likely his best defense, I guess. If your intended murder victim is your bestest friend and continues to be your bestest friend, what's a little murder contract among bestest friends, right?
Article also doesn't mention any suspension of Frost.
Frost is still creepy. Why they let him have any contact with Danton is beyond me.
