There was a picture of this in the WaPo this morning. Looks like this was the place to have been last weekend.

World Pond Hockey Championships

So, does anyone really show up for this?

Edited to add: there's an MSN group for this tournament, complete with photo albums.

Last year's winners, the Boston Danglers, were interviewed from the ponds. Maybe it was on TSN I saw it, from the hockey day coverage. I don't know if the Danglers won again this year.

Near Edmonton, there was a group playing hockey and breaking the record for the longest game. 240 hours.

From the CBC news website: Longest hockey game

From the article:

Saik built the outdoor rink – regulation size, with lights – in his backyard for the game. He said he had bought the property without looking at the house, satisfied that the yard was right for a sheet of ice.
The guy's got his priorities. Don't forget the laundry.

I couldn't do that for an hour without needing to take a nap.

Pond hockey - now, on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. There was an episode about it on Friday night.

A report on Friday night... a few days late but not bad for this event to be featured on NBC.

It told me the winners; for the second year in a row, the Boston Danglers.
