I think it'll be an A's/D-backs World Series! Based on the way Oakland is playing, I think the Yanks are finished for the year. As for Arizona, All they need to do is get to the playoffs, and it's over for any other NL team. With the pitching of Schilling and Johnson, it's lights-out for the Braves or anyone else; but the pitching match-ups with the A's and D-backs should be interesting.

I'm just looking forward to a 2002 world series without the yankees and without the braves...the sooner they can get eliminated the better.
Only thing that will suck is that I think the majority of the post season is on fox, which means having to endure Tim McCarver's moronic and idiotic obversations of baseball of which he knows absolutely nothing!!

Clearly, the cream of MLB this year is be A's, Yanks, Braves, D-backs. I can see any of them going all the way (yes, the Braves included). I'll settle for an '89 Bay Area replay if the Giants take the wild card. I'd be rooting for Oakland over anybody, but it'd be fun to see Houston or St. Louis defy expectations. I can't see the Twins winning TWO series Cinderella-style to reach the WS.
Tim McCarver can annoy, but please tell me that self-satisfied Joe Buck's rumored defection to football coverage will kick in by the World Series.

The Yankees pitching is falling into place beautifully. Pettitte's been spectacular, and Mussina and Clemens seem to have worked out their kinks. The bullpen hasn't blown a single save opportunity since Rivera went on the DL. I like our chances, but the A's and DBacks are going to be quite a challenge.

I'll go with Oakland/Arizona, although I wouldn't be too surprised if the Yankees are in it.
Fox has ALL postseason baseball exclusively now, so you're stuck with McCarver...and Joe Buck is doing football (suddenly I'm wincing at the memory of hearing him describe a missed field goal attempt as "incomplete" during the preseason), but he'll return to baseball for the postseason.

Thanks for reminding me off this illuminating fact. The "closer": the most overhyped, overrated role in contemporary baseball... Most guys who are effective pitchers can do it.

Yeah I like the Yankees' chances too, which is about 1 in 100. They arent even in the same league as the A's or D'Backs, quit fooling yourself, your pretender skanks suck.

As I told Jim @ Outsports while watching football on Sunday, I will not watch one second of the WS if it's the Braves-Yankees. Life is too short and I'll never get that time back.
Why do people listen to announcers? I don't get it, really. I turn off the sound and listen to CD's. I can tell what's going on without someone telling me.

Or, where available, watch the game in a foreign language. When you want to pay attention, you use your favorite sport to make you more multilingual. When you don't, it's easier to block out than mindless banter that you'd actually understand.
Ever since I came up to Seattle I've been dreading a Mariners-DBacks World Series (the Mariners fans around me are extremely rabid). Now that the Ms look like they won't even make the postseason, I gotta go with the A's-DBacks. I wouldn't mind the Twins pulling off a cinderella, though.

If this terrible situation occurs, I will go up the Space Needle and throw my T.V. off the top.

I would have had more faith in my beloved Twins if they had a shot at home field advantage. When they won it all in 1987 and 1991, they went unbeaten at home in the playoffs and World Series. That said, if they can't win it all, I'll have a tough time deciding who to root for. The Cardinals suffered some tough hits this season. The A's and Angels are great stories. The Yankees are the dynasty. So I'm hopong for a rematch of the '87 series between the Twins and Cards. But that's my heart talking. My head tells me its going to be a rematch of last year-Yanks vs. DBacks.

Yankees vs. D-Backs redux
Outside chance that it's the A's, but until they beat the Yankees, they won't be able to beat the Yankees.
