One of the suburban Phila. papers had an anonymous quote from a Phillies player using those words. Oddly enough, the two main papers have somewhat different takes on the situation...
From the Inquirer [quote]As news of the remark filtered through the clubhouse yesterday, it was clear that indeed was the word that was used. In fact, one player said he had heard the word used frequently.
From the Daily News [quote]"For someone to have said that, I don't believe it, first of all," leftfielder Pat Burrell said. "People are trying to stir some [bleep]. Now's not the time. Scott busts his butt every day. He does everything he can do. To say he's a cancer. No, hell no. No chance. That's just ridiculous."

There is a cancer in the Phillies lockerroom.
His name is Larry Bowa.

Wrong as usual.

Yes. You are right.
It is QUITE wrong for Larry Bowa to be a clubhouse cancer.
But Philadelphia baseball fans ... who've never been alleged to be collectively the brightest or most knowledgeable in the game ... like 'im so the team's stuck with him until they stink for at least two years in a row.
(As I post this, I'm hearing play in my head that David Bowie classic "Putting Out the Fire with Gasoline," the one from the "Cat People" movie soundtrack version, not the lame-o version on the "Let's Dance" LP. See these eyes so green ...)

With all due respect, Charlie, you can go to hell. You have little if any accurate knowledge of anything regarding Philadelphia and yet you continue to take these bizarre pot-shots. You have absolutely NO credibility as far as I'm concerned.

Perhaps this can be taken private. Or better yet with water pistols at high noon in the place of y'alls choice. Just so long as the rest of us aren't involved. And no, I won't be anyone's second.

The real cancer is ownership and management who for years have refused to spend money to put a quality product on the field. They keep waiting for their new stadium to be built in order to try to put fans in the seats. Everyone knows that is just a temporary thing unless you have a winning team. Just look at other cities with new stadiums that have seen attendance drop.
Hopefully Scott will find better times elsewhere just like Curt Schilling.

Don't worry, jqueer. I have nothing further to say to him.

He has plenty as far as others are concerned. I don't think the tone of his two posts merits such an impolite response. If you need to be rude, please do the rest of us a favor and do it elsewhere. Thanks.

Considering the overall posts, and not just the two in this thread, I was being kind.
Attention moderators: it would probably be a good idea to lock this thread.

Amen, Joe. I'm a Philly native, and have been to the Vet for many, many games over the years. I've grown awfully weary of the assumption that Phillies Phans are loudmouth, uncouth dolts with little knowledge of the game. Larry Bowa, while not the best manager ever, is definitely a step up from his predecessor (whose name I will not mention); he is certainly NOT the problem right now.
