Full Version: Third shutout in a row

Though the Avs have yet to play inspired hockey, Patrick Roy has the look of a man on a mission, having just led the team to three shutouts in a row. What could HE possibly have to prove anymore? Maybe the rest of the team will get back on track now.

Hiya Adam. Roy is still trying to prove to Wayne Gretzky that he's Canada's #1 'tender going into the Olympics.

There's never been much doubt that he's the team's go-to guy between the pipes, but breathing right down his neck for consideration are Marty Brodeur, Curtis Joseph, Ed Belfour, Sean Burke, and about a half-dozen other hot young hands.

Add to that the fact that he's a born competitor and will do anything to win.

The U.S. Olympic Team only wishes it had such a tough selection process! smile.gif

Easy on us yanks now Seph.. biggrin.gif
I would have to go with the money goaltender for Canada, in this case, Roy. wink.gif

I don't think there's any doubt that the US is pretty darn weak in goal for the Olympics. No question in my mind about it.

Honestly, I don't expect the US to medal next year either, but we'll eee.

And Puckman, don't worry about Seph. I'll straighten him out. biggrin.gif

thank you trev! I would respectfully disagree with you about the U.S. being "weak" when it comes to goalies. As I have stated before I feel one of the big reasons the Rangers are doing so well is that Richter is once again, healthy, and from what I have seen, especially with the game against the Flyers last wednesday night on ESPN, and heard he is looking very much like he has regained his form that took the Rangers to the Stanley Cup a few years back.

As far as the medals in the Olympics. The U.S. is expected, minimally to get the bronze. Personally I think anything above that is possible. We'll see.

Hey Trevor, I think my boyfriend might have something to say 'bout that!!!

By the way, the Habs are gearing-up for a little "Capital Punishment" this week-end. wink.gif

Hey puckman, I agree that Richter is playing real hot right now, but he'd better stay healthy til the Games. After him, the US has got Nashville's Mike Dunham, and then...??? Better start praying for another "Miracle on Ice." tongue.gif

Back to St. Patrick. Today, he was named NHL Player of the Week (there's a no-brainer).

Tomorrow, he goes for his record-setting 4th consecutive shut-out in NY vs. the Rangers. Think he can do it, puckman?

Personally, I don't think so. The Fleury-Lindros-York line ("The FLY Line" - you heard it here first) has gotta be the hottest in the league right now.

Speculation was that with his red-hot play (6-3-1, league leader in goals-against avg. - 1.50, and save percentage - .943) prior to his recent hamstring injury, Brian Boucher of the Flyers was making a push for a spot on the team.

I doubt it. Patrick is playing great but the Avs offense is sputtering while the Rangers are firing on all cylinders. Sadly I won't be able to see the game--meeting at work.

I don't think so either seph. Hey guys correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there is a Wednesday night game televised this week on ESPN??

Which REALLY bums me out, right before turkey day too!!

No ESPN game Wednesday night but the Tuesday Avs/Rangers game is on ESPN or ESPN2 (check your local listings.)

It's ESPN2. Of course, it's already in the third period so it's not that helpful. But there's a game on ESPN2 on Thursday night as well.

St. Patrick Roy placed a call today to monsieur Gretzky that he will NOT be playing in the Olympic Games for Canada next year, citing his need to focus on getting his act together for the Avs in time for the play-offs. "I've been there before - let another great goalie have that chance" he said.

So who's between the pipes for Canada? Brodeur? Belfour? CuJo? Burke? A youngster like Luongo, Theodore or Thibault?

An embarassment of wealth... I see Gold in their future. I'd play Burke, Brodeur, and Luongo. smile.gif

Well, it certainly didn't work four years ago. I wouldn't count the medals before they hatch.
