I was shocked to see on TV tonight that former Blue Jays pitcher John Cerutti has died suddenly at the age of 44. He was certainly a familiar face and voice to fans (Canmark, myself and probably a few others) who watch Blue Jays' games on Rogers Sportsnet, where he was a regular commentator. Cerutti was supposed to call today's final game of the season between the Jays and Yankees.

I was shocked to hear that John Cerutti passed away. Such a young and smart guy--I think he's a Harvard guy. I'm a Red Sox fan but I remember him pitching for the Blue Jays in the 80's. Earlier this year John did a radio interview with our local sports radio station. He was great, very informative. God bless his family; he'll be missed.

Very shocking, and saddening news. He was only 44, and leaves behind a wife and three kids.

(spike, according the the Star article, he actually graduated in math/economics from Amherst College. He had a careeer 49-43 record and 3.94 ERA in seven years in MLB; six with the Jays--he got the Jays' first win at the SkyDome--and one with the Tigers.)

Report from Blue Jays website.

Very very sad, a great guy at such a young age
My sympathy to his family and friends
