Full Version: A Bounty on His Head

Shades of the "Slapshot" moment ("You can't put a bounty on him." "I just did!"):

The coach of the Motor City Mechanics (of the UHL,) Steve Shannon, has been suspended indefinitely for offering a $200 bounty to any player who took out Flint General forward Kevin Kerr. Kerr had criticized Detroit Red Wing players (such as Chris Chelios and Kris Draper) who agreed to play for the Mechanics. Kerr had called them hypocrites for opting to play in the minors--where there's a salary cap--when they wouldn't accept a cap in the NHL. The Mechanics had hired Shannon as coach just the day before he offered the bounty.

Niiiiiiiiiiiice. rolleyes.gif

And why on earth would the other players be upset with the guy who spoke out against the NHL players? He's sticking up for them in trying to keep NHL'ers from taking their jobs. Are the other players in the league star-struck or just stupid?

Puckman, I'm leaving the office in about 10 minutes to head down to Long Beach for the Ice Dogs first home game in three weeks--they still lead the western division of the ECHL--so I'll let you know how they do tomorrow. In the appropriate thread, I promise.

Regarding the newly-suspended coach, his previous job was as a cop!!

What is it with this UHL? Now a player was suspended indefinitely for going after the opposing head coach during a brawl. Three other players from the same team were also suspended for other incidents. eek!

Good for Potvin for keeping the Frostbite players in check (side point: two of the Adirondack Frostbite owners are Barry Melrose and Steve Levy, so if there had been a major fight, ESPN would have had access to team owners!) The UHL really seems to be old-time hockey: players going after coaches, bounties, low salaries.
