Do any of my fellow outsporters watch that campy, bizarre show? Most of the singing is damn awful. And have you noticed that the singers and dancers have this glued 'stepford wives' type of smiles on their faces? The dancer Bobby Burgess literally never stops smiling. Kind of like Mr. Sardonicus. Welk's accent was clearly pretty fake too. But for a good laugh I will turn that show on. I've heard several of their versions of WHEN THE RED RED ROBIN COMES BOB BOB BOBBIN ALONG and I'M GONNA WRITE YOU A LETTER. Campy kitch stuff. And my grandparents always hated the show. laugh.gif

You just warm my heart! I watch the LW show every week. I just love it. Every once in a while there is some exceptional talent, like the woman with the giant smile who play rag-time on the piano.

k d lang used to make a great joke, tongue in cheek, before she was officially 'out'. She would said to her audience, "I want you all to know a secret, I'm................................................a..............................................(everyone anticipates "lesbian")...............Lawrence Welk fan! Remember her accordian?

That woman piano player is damn talented. I forgot her name until someone reminded me it is Joanne Castle. Tom Netherton the blond was pretty hunky too. Too bad he's involved with the far right now. Born again Jerry Falwell type. He always set off my gaydar. Just a little too blond and a little too pretty.

Tom Netherton? What a fag!

We've watched "Larry and the Gang" for years, but our local PBS station moved it, around the first of the month, from 8 p.m. to 6 p.m. which precludes our being able to see both the local news as well as the national news. Descisions, descisions . . . .

I can't believe anyone else catches the LWS on PBS. I thought I was the only closted LWS watcher. wink.gif Of course, when I was youngster, my parents tuned into the show, so I was a bit forced to watch. But that's ok, I rathered liked it.... cool.gif

Fast forward to 2006, our PBS station airs it on Saturday nights at 7:00 p.m., the same time FOX airs "COPS"
Which to watch, which to watch.... sad.gif sad.gif So, I usually toggle between the two shows.

I know, I've got to get a better Saturday night life... rolleyes.gif

I used to watch a bit as like a 5-8 year old and enjoyed it, then later with my grandmother because she enjoyed it (of course it was very uncool then and I mostly thought it was stupid or some other intelligent adolescent response, but even then I didn't really mind watching). As others have said, JoAnne, the piano player, was my favorite, but I think I was always secretly dreaming of being a Lennon Sister! tongue.gif

This is too funny. My partner LOVES the Lawrence Welk Show. We record every show on our DVR and I copy them over to a DVD disc since you can't buy any of the shows on DVD just yet. There is supposed to be a movement to get them to DVD but that hasn't happened yet. So, I am making my partner his own set to watch. It's kind of painful for me to watch the shows but they are so campy that I get caught up in them too.

Oh K.D. Lang also said that she could never tell which one was Bobbie and which one was Sissy either. LOL biggrin.gif
