We are beginning the process of transferring everything to our new board. We are certain you will like what it has to offer and will be easier for us to manage.
Just a heads up that once we start transferring (within the next day or so), we can't guarantee that any posts on this board created after the move started will be transferred. But we will keep the old board open so people can copy and paste or use as a reference. The idea is that all posts and profiles will be copied over. Could take 48 hours or so.
We appreciate your patience in the meantime, but keep posting away!
Thanks

Here is what I like. When you click on a profile name it gives you some stats. Example:
FCMN:
15,654
( 8.5 posts per day / 5.18% of total forum posts )

I don't see anywhere to change your name. Seeing as how the signature function works here, I'm ready to move the FCMN line to the signature and reclaim Joe in Philly...

we will check on how to change names. there are a lot of little admin things we're still discovering, which is why we opened the board so you all can let us know. the time is also set to Greenwich Mean Time since the conversion took place in England!

Looks very cool! Although I had something like 1400 posts and now it says 899. I don't really care about the number but just concerned that some of the threads may not have transferred over. Just an observation. Overall it looks a lot better than the old board. Good job!

Why did it drop my membership? Makes me feel left out.
This is a very good type of board that I use on other mbs....but BE CAREFUL: It is VERY IMPORTANT to remember to keep the software/security up to date on this.
Not too long ago on another message board with the exact software here, there was a secret attack on it that embedded malicious javascript code causing viruses to appear in members computers (fortunately, my Opera didn't let it run the JavaScript command that was embedded)

THIS IS IMPORTANT:
Any members in UBB who had both a display name and a login name, will now need to login using their Display Name.
The old board had you use your log-in. This MIGHT be the issue so try your display name and password and see if it works.

I wrote the new board tech people and asked.
The old board was horrible in terms of its technology. It did not even have a database, which meant we had to transfer over every profile and message as a separate file. This new baord is light years ahead. There is no doubt that mistakes happened. We will see if we can get everyone's profile over; if we can't we will reopen the old board and you can always copy and paste key posts you have made. Otherwise, consider it a fresh start!
Thanks for your patience!
Also, we have decided to NOT allow signatures since we think they can be distracting and annoying. What do you all think?

I don't think a one line signature is all that distracting.

Completely disagree. Plus, under "My Controls" there is an area for Board Display Settings, which gives you these options:
Do you wish to view members signatures when reading topics?
Do you wish to view images in posts, such as smilies and posted images?
Do you wish to view members avatars when reading topics?
So if anyone does find them distracting and annoying they can easily change their settings and not see them.
George: on my screen there's no tennis forum but under the main directory listing all the forums (under where it says "Logged In As..." you should see Outsports Discussion Board > Outsports) there are tennis threads sitting there by themselves.

Testing
Not bad - still learning the ropes, but I did get my time zone set.
Why no access to personal pic? I'll do that and renew my avatar when I get home. Formatting options? Sheesh - it's almot as bad as Blue Book vs. Style Manual. I'll have to get my secretary to post for me! BTW, I note that the delete key still becomes inoperative from time to time, obliging me to block text and then delete it by hitting the spacebar. "What's up with that?"
I'm looking forward to familiarizing myself with the "Manage ignored users" button.

I also like the "Who's online" option. Can't wait to see who the lurkers turn out to be.

Well this old dog doesn't like the new subtle blues, grays and mauves nearly as much as that good old bold blue and red, but I suppose he'll just have to learn to bark a new tune.
Glad to see ya back though. And reassuring to see that others are familiar with the format.

You all need to change your own time -- Click on My Controls and it's on the left side.
1. Seems as if avatars have to be image links. I will write the techie about why we can't upload from our computer.
2. We are aware Tennis is missing and we put in a tech request for that.
3. We will be posting a list of new features for everyone.

Is there a reason Invision was chosen over phpBB?

On the old board if you wanted to put something in, say, italics, you would use [ ]. I just went to the Amazing Race thread and all the [ ] coding shows up without the text being converted to italics; it's not converting it. Not a big deal, overall, but on threads that are current, like the TAR one, it looks weird.

We got rave reviews from sites that get tons of traffic and use Invision. Stability was a big issue for us.

I'm afraid there's not much we can do about that. In time, posts from the old board will get more and more dated so this won't be an issue for long. Remember, the old board was a technical nightmare and for us to be able to move it over with relatively few problems is a huge accomplishment.
Another reason we picked Invision was that they were about the only one able to convert the old board.

However, I can't figure out how to upload an avatar, either. It wouldn't take mine. It said it had the thing to resise a pic that's bigger than 90X90 to the proper size, but still wouldn't take it. Can I still upload it from a URL, or do I have to find a smaller pic?
