Full Version: High School Football Season Cancelled

Imagine that you're a high school football player and, while you're on the losing streak of a lifetime, your first-year coach decides that he's had enough and has deemed your team and you to be "unsafe" to play. It's not a matter of equipment or field conditions. He's saying that your team's play and your team and you are unsafe to play. blink.gif

Now that isn't just an imagined tale. It's true. It happened in Michigan. A first-year coach deemed his own team unsafe to play and the board of education there went along with it. huh.gif

I don't know how someone could get to that point at all. As a former high school football coach myself, I don't ever think that a losing streak could justify such a drastic action. It completely mystifies me.

I read the article. The losing streak is not the reason for the cancellation, just a byproduct of the situation. The team barely has enough players. The coach is experienced, this is his first year at that school, but he has coached elsewhere. His view is play is not merely bad, but dangerous.

Seems like the right call to me.
