Full Version: Spell Checker?

Hey Cyd and Jim,

I thought one of the more usefull and popular ideas that was suggested for the new BB (and one I think I originated) was for a "SPELL CHECK" function...

Are we going to see this anytime in the near future?

I still think it would be incredibly useful.

Thanks,

Rob

I actually have a spell checker with this board but Jim and I aren't exactly sure why or how. Since my first message with this new software I have had a little IPB Image symbol on my top bar. I clicked on it and it prompted me to download a plug-in and I've had spell check every since. I haven't heard of anyone else having it but for what it's worth, this software does support it somehow. Hope that helps.

After doing a little research, my Firefox browser does not have the spell checker so I think it might have something to do with which browser you use. My Explorer browser does have a spell checker and I'm thinking that the message board software just pulls it from the browser. If you'd like spell check, try to find a spell check plug-in for your Internet browser and see if that works.

Correct, the spellcheckers for Internet Explorer and Firefox are third-party "extensions" that integrate into the browser. For MSIE, the plug-in is ieSpell at a cost of US$15 available free for personal use. The equivalent Firefox extension is SpellBound. Spellcheck is built into Safari, the Macintosh browser.

I have downloaded the ieSpell plug-in and the little "abc" icon appeared on my browser menu line. I just used it to spell check this very statement. Works great too. Oh, they didn't require the $15 as long as it was being used for personal means.

Unfortunately for Mac Users, Spellbound does not work for Firefox versions after v1.0.4. I'm running 1.5.0.7 and the Spellbound installation won't work. It's just me and Dictionary.com unless someone knows another FireFox extension.

There's also a spellchecker in the latest versions of Google Toolbar for Firefox and for Windows.

An article I read about the new version of Internet Explorer mentioned that when Firefox 2.0 is released it will have a spellchecker.
