Has anyone else been hooked on this show like I have? For once, I'm in agreement with the TV critics that this is one of the best shows on the small screen, if not the best. To me, there isn't a whole lot of science fiction as much as there is human conflict. I think that's the main reason why it's worth watching.

I wondered how they were going to pull the frying pan out of the fire from Season 2's cliffhanger. It was a good beginning to Season 3, even alluding to the occupation of Iraq with the Cylons in control of the new world. Enjoyable all around! biggrin.gif

I've only seen a couple of episodes but was very impressed by what I saw. Hard to believe such cheesy source material could lead to a good show! Maybe there's something to Roger Ebert's idea that they should remaking bad films instead of good ones.
jaragonus
The original show wasn't that bad- it was just a tv version of " Star Wars". The new show is completly different in look and tone.
UCLAfan
The best reason for watching BSG is Jamie Bamber. Not only is he a good actor, but he's truly a specimen of manhood to behold! biggrin.gif

I'm trying to love the show. I was a child and loved the original show!

they fattened him up for this year. I'm sure it's make-up. Maybe in a few eps he will lean-out again and look as hot as he did in those shower scenes.
coachjw
I subscribe to Out magazine and I had to do a double-take as I noticed JB was a bit more chunky.
UCLAfan
Jamie being a slight bit heavier still has no less of an impact on my celeb crush on him. I don't care because I'd still sleep with him. tongue.gif

Last night's episode truly kept me on the edge of my seat. The commercial breaks were a welcome relief in the action, which is a rarity for me in today's mass of jumbled TV. Bravo to the producers of BSG, bravo! biggrin.gif

I thought it was a fat suit and make up

I thought I saw that in Out

I went to a BSG party in SF on Sunday

they had it at the Community Center-they showe part of the last season

had a nice little turn out
Mahaney
I hope it's just a fat suit and make-up. He is WAY to hot to be chunky like that.

Next week is going to be intense, I think. I'm hoping for full on battle.
Bailey
Jamie Bamber is hot. So is the actor who plays Helo. But I'm in love with Lt. Gaeta. What a cutie - especially with longer hair.
UCLAfan
About tonight's show, WOW! ohmy.gif That was my mouth agape, as I watched just how they wrapped up this storyline arc about settling down on the new planet. I wondered how they'd pull these characters I have come to love. Now I know how. Hands down, the best show on TV! biggrin.gif
theodoresdaddy
it is the best show and I'm wondering how bad it will get stiffed by the Emmy people
UCLAfan
wub.gif This is my reaction after seeing hunky Jamie Bamber last night without his shirt. He continues to be my main reason for watching this show, time and again. I think I'm in lust. Shhh, don't tell the B/f. tongue.gif

But seriously though, they set a good chain of events in motion with last night's episode. I think I'm enjoying this season more than last season, and last season was pretty damn near perfectly executed. I hope someone else is watching this show and enjoying it as much as I am.
MIB
You are not the only one, UCLA. It's one of the best shows on television. I am very happy that Bamber's character has shed the weight.

Yeah, that shirtless scene of Bamber was a nice bonus to the episode. And didn't he say that he as a little more to go? That guy is hot.

I just started watching BSG again this season and it is one of my 'Must See" tv shows. It's taking me a while to remember who's who in the cast. I want to know who are the other 5 Cylons and where are they? I'm sitll upset about what they did to Jammer.

I've been listening to the BSG podcast as well as the fan run Galactica Watercooler podcast for more information about each episode. Galactica watercooler is fun. They are geeks, but they give insights on ach episode that I ten to miss since I'm still getting reaquainted with the show.

Can't wait for this weeks episode. What's the Galactica crew goign to do with the knowledge of the Cylon killing virus? And where the hell did it come from?
SteelResolve
My guess is that the mysterious object on the cylon basestar was some kind of deep space probe send out (allegedly) from Earth. It could have contained some trace amounts of human genetics or viruses that that cylons were not immune too. Sorta like when the Europeans came to America--the diseases that the Europeans carried and the Native Americans weren't used to, greatly decimated the native population.
UCLAfan
Ah! A very plausible hypothesis to the origins of the viral plot twist. I, however, would propose that they downloaded computer virus, causing them all sorts of trouble, from the probe and that it originated from their vaunted 13th colony.

And Jamie Bamber is my newest celeb crush. wub.gif Sigh. Jamie has to be more McDreamy than anyone else on TV.

It is no doubt something from Microsoft that is now wreaking havoc with the Cylons. laugh.gif

Just as I've gotten used to watching BSG on Friday nights, and recording it then, the folks at the Sci-Fi Channel figure change things up by switching the show to Sunday nights. huh.gif You move a successful time slot for a new one? This is something I don't get. Isn't the old adage that if something isn't broken, they why fix it?
Mariner Duck Guy
Apollo shirtless again! Yum.

And the boxing match was cool. Adama vs. Chief followed by Starbuck vs. Apollo. I can understand why Apollo is pissed at Starbuck, but why the hell was Starbuck so pissed off at Apollo? She was the one who ran off the next day to marry Anders on New Caprica.

It was nice to take a break from an episode with no Baltar or no Cylons. And Helo...wow, what a solid piece of hunk. Who knew!
UCLAfan
Let the speculation begin!

"Battlestar Galactica" returns from hiatus this Sunday and I thought I'd bring a little treat to the table. The story above is an interview with the creators and the new direction in which they are taking the show. Beware, however, there are plot spoilers and future events in the show that are stealthily revealed. biggrin.gif

But they didn't ask the important questions, like "Will Apollo go without a shirt for the rest of the season?" or "Will the standard uniform for hot guys like Helo or Apollo be the birthday suit?". tongue.gif
UCLAfan
The drought is over. BSG is back! biggrin.gif

I definitely think that tonight's episode answered some questions while raising some others. Is Kara the Cylon? Who was it that Deanna saw and recognized? How can they find earth after the Eye of Jupiter was decimated? What will become of Baltar now that he's been captured?

Oh, the decisions and the questions are all so tantalizing! But most important of all, when will Apollo get "nekkid" again? tongue.gif

First I was wondering if it was Roslin that Deanna saw, but on second thought, that's a stretch. I don't think Kara is a cylon but obviously she has more to her than we have known before.

As for Apollo, during the scenes on the planet I kept wondering who gets to apply the fake sweat to those arms, and why can't I have that job smile.gif

Hey, have you sen this article on huffingtonpost today? Pretty good stuff... I've sent it on to manyof my non-BSG watching friends:

HuffPost article on BSG

I like that Helo finally got an episode on his own, to showcase his own talent and his character's own prejudices and feelings. Loved it! I was glad to see that this show has lots of action and can still hit at the heart like with this one.

Even the monsters have often have human faces, like the doctor tonight. Wow!

Tonight's hunk watch: Helo. Shirtless for several minutes during the episode tonight sure made it easy on my sleepy eyes.
calguysd
It was great to see Helo finally getting more exposure. Also good to see in this morning's L.A. Times that the series is coming back for a fourth season.
charliecstl
I have always liked the Helo character, and was also glad to see him get some attention for a change. He has developed from a secondary character to one of the more mainstays to many of the storylines.

And seeing him nearly naked a couple of times was oh so nice. I am sure he would be easy to fall in love with, given the chance!!

The actor is Tahmoh Penikett. He is relatively new to the television scene, but has had some interesting guest appearances. BSG is his first major US series.

I do agree that BSG continues to be one of the strongest shows on the air. It is a shame they moved it to Sunday which is a far more competitive night of television. I thought it fit the Friday mold pretty well.

Here's the official release from Scifi.com:

Scifi press release

Nice to see that the show has picked up a few additional viewers... particularly female (I guess they don't track gay men). With all the shirtless Helo we got last ep, I can't say I'm surprised...
Mariner Duck Guy
Shirtless Helo. Hubba Hubba.

How about a Apollo/Helo/Anders sandwich?

This seemed like a stand alone episode because most of it could have been placed anywhere in the series.

I just started watching this series this season. Could someone explain to me how Six could "see" Baltar in her mind? I thought it was just the other way around. I'm confused by this.

And Chief sure seems to be drunk in a lot of episodes.
UCLAfan
OK, welcome to the fold on this, Mariner. Six "sees" Baltar because Baltar has "seen" her in practically every episode prior to this season. To me, that denotes the strength of their bond and sets up another interesting question after that. Is Baltar one of the other Cylons?
UCLAfan
Is anyone else feeling a sophomore slump with BSG? I just feel like they're hitting too much drama on not enough action octane. The balance has shifted radically toward the drama end and not enough of the mix.

I'm adrift. Bring me back, BSG.
Burtsfield
I am in the same boat. This season has lost the ethereal spiritual questioning the first season had. It is all about drama. Bring back the Cylons and the questions about the nature of humanity.
UCLAfan
They finally got it right in tonight's episode! Perfect mix of action and drama.

****SPOILER ALERT****

I think Kara finally figured out that she is indeed a Cylon and that's why she sacrificed her life so capriciously in tonight's episode. Why else would she commit suicide?

This was just the right mix of drama with the action and included the Cylons in there too. I loved this week's episode, just for giving me as a fan what I have been craving.

biggrin.gif wink.gif
UCLAfan
Sunday night's episode is apparently the last one until January 2008. I wish I would have known this. It will be nearly 10 months before I get back into this. Is it any wonder why some fans are beginning to abandon this franchise so rapidly? I'm extremely disappointed. sad.gif
CycloneMatt
We were also surprised that it will be nearly a year before BSG is back for season 4. Plus we were a little disappointed in the finale Sunday night. Weren't we promised that one of the five Cylons would be revealed? We didn't get that at all. None of them were revealed and we don't even necessarily know that the four who were hearing the music and came together in that room really are Cylons either. Interesting that Kara comes back with her "news," but otherwise, I found it to be overall pretty unfulfilling for a season finale. The show is not on the same level it was over seasons one and two. Evan Baltar's trial wasn't all that intense. It had moments last week, but the wrap-up was ho-hum, IMO.

But with the wait until season 4, it's almost like they WANT us to forget to come back to it. Plus I'm wondering why they only ordered half a season's worth of episodes. Hmm... huh.gif
JC
Although it wasn't a great episode overall, I thought all five cylons were revealed: the four who gathered in the room and Starbuck. How else could she be alive?

Though now that I think about it, that doesn't fit with the opera visions. In the vision Baltar, Six and Hera are on the lower level and Six looks up and sees the five figures on the balcony. But judging by their own visions, two of those figures should be Sharon and Roslyn and Sharon can't be one of the final five. So I'm confused, but I think there has to be a connection between the music that gathered the four and Starbuck's return; I doubt it's coincidental.
