MSNBC story on how the religious right was used by the Bush Regime. Oh, what a tangled web we weave when at first we practice to deceive! I'm loving it. laugh.gif

As I saw this on TV tonight, the sheer entertainment value of it was worth the watch. The GOP used the religious zealots to advance their fascist agenda, then turned around calling them "the nuts". The hypocrisy just runs rampant in this story! biggrin.gif

Part of me always wondered whether the Bush administration was as devoted to the Christianists as they lead on, but then they'd do something so bizarre, like the Teri Schiavo thing or vetoing stem cell research, that I'd be convinced they really were in line with them all along.

Part of my mind also tells me that the leaders of both the GOP and the Christianists (Falwell, Robertson, Perkins, etc.) made this bargain, kind of like "we're not going to give you all you want because the country isn't as hardcore conservative as you want it to be, but you keep the flock going to the polls and we'll occasionally throw you a bone -- you keep up the illusion that we're all in this together and so will we".

Anything for a vote. Too bad those on the far right are to blind to see this.

I think you're right on about the "throwing a bone" analogy aquaman. As long as they spew their fascists comments about glbt humans, feminists, etc & pass legis that simply suits their core constituents then the christianists may still blindly vote for their beloved party. I would venture to guess, however, that some of them just may say "f" you. We'll just have to wait & see...

Maybe we should open up an S&M christianist shop, it would suit them perfectly. ohmy.gif rolleyes.gif
