JASON KEYTER, the former United States player, has accused the sport's governing body of helping to ruin his career after his year-long ban for testing positive for cocaine was doubled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.

Keyter had always denied intentionally taking the drug, traces of which were found in a random test when playing for Esher in National League Two on October 22 last year. He claimed that his drink had been spiked in a London nightclub, but could not prove so.

He was banned for a year by the RFU, but the IRB appealed to the CAS insisting that Keyter serve a full two years, as per the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) code, to which the board is a signatory.
