A US Judge gave a convicted felon, for child abuse, the option of prison or exile....in Canada. Although the convicted man already lives in Canada with his wife and children, this is apparently the first time a US citizen has been exiled. The other problem is that now that he has been convicted of a felony Canada may refuse to allow him entrance . If this story recieves wide publicity in Canada, and Ft Erie in particular, I think it is quite likely we will refuse to accept him. Potentially this guy could end up as a man without a country.

Why in God's name would a convicted child molester be give ANY option other than jail.

It sounds to me like the judge just figured that if he got him across the border, then it would
be Canada's problem.

And if we can deny him entrance because he's a convicted felon, then we bloody well better.

Now if we could only refuse entrance to Ann Coulter

Actually, it's pretty easy. Given what she's written in the past about Canadians, she can be denied entry based on Canada's hate crime laws.

And yes, we do have freedom of speech in our Charter of Rights, the diff is that it CANNOT be done at the expense of other laws.
