This is the best new show of the season! It's the one on Showtime about the forensic blood-spatter expert who's also a serial killer. But don't worry...he only kills people who deserve it. It's dark and creepy and funny and well-written.

I love it. And even though there are no gay characters, there's something deeply homo-erotic about it. Anyone watching?

I wish I could watch. I love the actor and I've heard wonderful things about the show. However. but I'm a wimp and can't stand a lot of gore and violence. Wish I weren't so squeamish!

I freak out the bf when I tell him how much I have in common with Dexter, like how he goes through the motions of social interaction without feeling connected to others at all. His dream of being alone on the planet is one I share. Finally, I can totally be myself without having to worry about how others are perceiving me! I wish. You ever feel living is acting?

I saw the first two episodes during a Showtime free preview. Since I'm not paying for Showtime I'll have to wait for the DVD to see the rest of it. (So in case I should click on this thread again, try not to post spoilers without warning. smile.gif )

Dexter premiered on CBS last night, and wow! all the good things I heard about this show were true and then some! Dexter is obviously a verrrrrry complex character, but one that is absolutely fascinating. He is a serial killer who can't stop killing; but because his dad was a cop and knew about his son's, er, basic instinct, Dexter was well-trained in how to spot the scumbags and how to kill them without getting caught. Some of the writing on this show is off the charts. When describing the too-muchness of a Miami murder scene in broad daylight, Dexter thinks, "it's like a new, daring section of Disney World - Dahmer Land." OMG, that one made me chuckle for the rest of the episode.

WWCD, I definitely get the same homoerotic vibe. For starters, Michael C. Hall had a completely gratuitous shirtless shot that showed off just how friggin' CUT the guy is. So you have this smokin' hottie who I guess is straight, yet has absolutely no desire to have sex with his girlfriend (he conveniently picked the victim of domestic and sexual abuse, someone too traumatized to deal with sex again), and the flagrant sexual advances by the police lieutenant roll off Dexter like water off a duck's back.

I don't know if I can wait for all the episodes on CBS. Maybe I'll indulge in some immediate gratification and just buy the Season 1 DVD.

I don't have Showtime, so I never caught the show, so I rented Season 1 from Netflix...do it...get ahold of the whole first season...you will love it. He is such a natural for the role.
I really don't know how they could clean it up for regular TV and stilll capture the essence of the show.
Enjoy!!!!!!

Yeah definitely buy/rent the DVDs. Even though I watched it on Showtime, I caught a few minutes of it on CBS last night and all the edits and dubs are very distracting. The language, nudity and crime scenes will have to be sriously cut and it will take away alot of the impact of the show.

After purchasing and watching Season 1 on iTunes, we dropped HBO and switched to Showtime.

This is the best program on TV. And if you like Season 1, wait till you see Season 2.....OMG!!

I do have an issue with the show though-some of the acting is just dreadful. While Michael C Hall is terrfic, a few of the supporting players are really, really bad. The girl who plays Dex's sister Deb and the guy who plays Doakes (the black detective who hates Dexter) are the most egregious, IMO. And some of the subplots were just really boring.
CHIathlete
Interesting points GTF. The actors that play Deb and Doakes are good at times, but at other times they seem awkward or uncomfortabl delivering their lines...it's sort of odd. On the other hand, the actor that plays Doakes is pretty hot...if you like the assertive, very muscular, african-american types <raises hand>. :-)

You mean "I'm watching you, mother-lover" isn't a phrase you hear every day? I'm stunned! laugh.gif In other words, I think I'll just wait until I get to see the episodes on DVD rather than watch any more of them (as noted above over a year ago, I saw the first two episodes on a Showtime free preview and that's it).

HOLY FAWKING SHYT!!!!! If people haven't been watching this season, they missed a great one with John Lithgow as a very cold serial killer. The season 4 finale last night blew me away at the very end!!! I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT!!!!
George Twins fan
This was, IMO, far and away the best season of Dexter. I was a bit reluctant at the casting of Lithgow, who I find to be awfully hammy sometimes. But he was great. And even the acting from the supporting cast has improved, espcially the girl who plays Dex's sister Deb (who is his wife in real life). The only criticism I had with this season was the subplot with the interoffice romance...big snooze for me. And I find Dexter's Asian coworker to be beyond ridiculous. But they were such small parts of the season that it didn't matter.

I don't know how they can top themselves next season but I can't wait to find out!

I still haven't seen anything beyond the first season since I don't have Showtime. If anyone wants to send me the DVDs for season 2 on... smile.gif
