The season is off to a great start! Can't wait to see who comes out on top at the end of the season.

The Fresno State women's basketball team upset 18th-ranked BYU tonight 61-51. BYU won at 4th-ranked Stanford earlier in the week. The win by the Lady Bulldogs may not seem like much until you realize it was the first win over a ranked opponent for the women's hoop squad in 14 years. This team was horrible for years and years but has gotten better recently and won a couple of NIT games the last few seasons. This could be the year the ladies qualify for their first ever NCAA Tournament even though it's ridiculously early to start forecasting that. However, they are 2-0 with the other win coming on the road against Utah, which advanced to the Elite 8 last season.
WSU Cougars
I saw that Fresno State upset BYU after BYU upset Stanford. So can Fresno State beat Stanford? Lol....That's my theory. I'm sure the team can do it.

This season is off to a great start!!
TheOtherFSU
Ironically, we will get to find out in just a couple of weeks. The Lady Bulldogs play Stanford on Jan. 2. Actually, the Fresno State women have a very tough non-conference schedule (BYU, Stanford, Cal, Texas Tech, Arizona, Utah, Pepperdine among others). There are opportunities there for some big wins, but also quite a few chances at some losses too.
WSU Cougars
WOW..for the Bulldogs. Seems like they are playing a Pat Summitt Tennessee Lady Vol schedule lol..They take on all comers haha..

and that's funny FSU plays Stanford. I didn't know they were meeting up this season.
TheOtherFSU
I've gotta say I'm really surprised with those Lady Bulldogs. Fresno State tonight beat 23rd-ranked Texas Tech 74-65. They hadn't beaten a ranked team in 14 years and have now beaten two in a span of two weeks.

Another women's result tonight was pretty wild. Kansas State beat Mississippi Valley State 77-18. Amazing... MVSU only made 5 baskets the entire game.

Poor Mississippi Valley State btw..but Fresno State is looking good. Maybe they will come out of the WAC and really suprise some people. LA Tech is sorta down and maybe they can top the Lady Techsters this season.
TheOtherFSU
La. Tech is really down. You're not kidding. They are 2-6, their worst start in school history. Losing their coach hurt tremendously. Fresno State beat the Techsters last year for the first time ever so I'm thinking they can do it again. The Lady Bulldogs' juggernaut of a schedule continues tomorrow night at #16 Cal. I'm thinking 3 upsets of Top 25 teams in a 3-week span would be downright unbelievable. That's going to be a difficult win to get.
WSU Cougars
I saw something online where CAL is off to their best start in like 8 years I believe or something like that.

#6 Ohio State got thumped by #10 LSU today.

#3 Oklahoma plays Ohio State on Dec. 20th on ESPN2.
CycloneMatt
Saw recently that Cal lost their point guard to a knee injury for the season. Will be interesting to see how the Bears do without their leader.
WSU Cougars
There is a big top ten matchup this Wednesday with Ohio State vs Oklahoma! It should be pretty good!
CycloneMatt
I heard on another board that they have already sold out their reserved seats and will put SRO tickets on sale the day of the game. It's said they could have upwards of 13,000 people there for it.
WSU Cougars
Yep! I can't wait! To see a great game!

The ACC has the top 3 spots in the women's hoop poll now (Maryland, N.Carolina, Duke). I wonder if one conference has ever had the top 3 teams in a major sport prior to this ???
CycloneMatt
Yes, at least in women's basketball - this is from an AP report that came out on the 26th of December:

"The Southeastern Conference twice had the top three teams in the poll. Tennessee, LSU and Georgia were 1-2-3 the week of Nov. 22, 2004, while Auburn, Tennessee and Mississippi held the top three spots the week of Jan. 9, 1989."

Not sure if it's happend elsewhere, although I would guess it has at some point.
WSU Cougars
CBS is doing their women's college coverage this weekend with Tennessee at Connecticut be the headliner.

Michigan State at #1 Maryland and Kentucky at Ohio State are games that will be on too.
WSU Cougars
I'm so glad Candace Parker dunked on Tennessee today! GO VOLS!
