Doesn't beat this one though. It's so comically tragic (or tragically comical).
Little
Sophie Delezio suffered horrific burns, lost some of her fingers and both of her feet in 2003 when a 70 year old man suffered a seizure while driving, causing his car to plough into the childcare centre where Sophie was, and burst into flames (the car, not Sophie).
Then, earlier this year, Sophie was being helped in a pushchair across a pedestrian crossing when she was hit by another car, thrown 20 metres by the impact, and spent almost five weeks in hospital recovering from a serious lung injury and fractures to her spine, ribs, jaw and collarbone. The weird thing is the car was being driven by an 81 year old man.
The running tag is that Sophie must have done something pretty bad in her previous incarnation to old men and karma is now repaying her.
What makes it even worse is that the news today is reporting that Sophie now has a life threatening
brain injury.
It's so tragic that you can only laugh. I know, my bad.
Edited to add:
Of course, little Sophie is now the pin up girl of every charitable institution,
sports star wanting feel good publicity and may even tip the balance in favour of the canonisation of Australia's
first Catholic saint.
Further edited to add:
I am so going to hell, but the following passage from the last link posted above just cracked me up (in that hand-over-mouth, oh-god-this-is-so-awful-that-I-can-only-laugh type of crack me up):
QUOTE
Ms Martin [little Sophie's mother] said that when she looks back on the accident she can see miracles. The car was airborne when it went through through the window but Sophie's internal organs were not damaged when it landed on top of her.
Isn't the fact that she survived two horrific car accidents the miracle.
Furthermore, does the punctured lung from the second accident cancel the supposed miracle from the first accident where she did not sustain damage to any internal organs?
I know, my bad again.
